We had a very lovely gentle return to playing live last month. Thanks to Kim and Nancy for hosting in your beautiful backyard/alley, Dot for opening and dropping the bass on Rumenye (no actual basses were harmed), and all who came out! It was so nice to see all your faces and remember how to play music with microphones and other humans around. We're gonna do it again this month at a bloc(k) party near Maia's, with FOUR other bands. More below.

But first: we invite you to join us (virtually) at KlezKanada! Stef and Maia will be there and we would love to see you. It runs from 8/23-8/27 this year and it's not too late to sign up! It is still sad to not be together in person, but the online version of the festival has many silver linings such as 1) being MUCH more affordable, and 2) being MUCH easier to get to from Seattle. (You can even take an AM1 class at 6:30 AM PDT and then go to work after! Bonus points for playing french horn in your apartment at this hour.)
Left: cabaret shenanigans at the last in-person klezkanada, which will surely happen again (possibly metaphorically) this year. Right: a literal silver lining (ok it's a stretch) over sholem from the same year.

Now is the time to throw down for our treasured arts and culture communities. So, sign up for the whole week, or just watch the streaming concerts, or drop into a workshop or two, or join the wild banter of the Cabaret! Maybe just donate to keep the cash flowing to people we love and who make our trips to Yiddish Land possible. Registration info here.

After camp this year, join us at an online workshop on anti-Zionist and Palestine solidarity songs in Yiddish, led by singer/organizer/songwriters Rosza Daniel Lang/Levitsky (NYC/Lenapehoking/ברוקלין) and Isabel Frey (Vienna/Wien/װין.):

Sunday, Aug 29th - online
9am [LA, Vancouver]; noon [Montréal, Atlanta]; 6pm [Paris, Vienna]; 8pm [al-Quds/ ירושלים]
Registration for the workshop will open next week. Keep an eye on our Facebook page/social media for the link.

Oh yeah, and that show we keep talking about is gonna be the day before!

Saturday, Aug 28th, 3-8pm - Seattle
5500 block of 8th Ave NE
Music will start by 4. This is a block party featuring musical appearances by us, Shpilkis!, Kim and an Oud player, and Maia's neighbor's Traditional Cajun band. There will also be food (possibly a food truck!) and general neighborly cameraderie. Outdoors, but please be vaxxed and/or masked.

Before we go:
  • If you are planning on coming to KlezKanada, be in touch and we will get you a tool kit for ways to connect with Yiddishists with Palestine during the week.
  • We want to let you know about a musical compilation we are part of which is a fundraiser for the United Palestinian Appeal, check it out on Bandcamp.
