Will You Join a Chapter Meeting This Month?
|
|
Have you been wondering what it's like to take action with Citizens' Climate Lobby? Come to this month's chapter meeting (most are online) or contact your chapter leader to set up a time to explore opportunities that fit your time and interests! (Emails listed below)
Chapter Meetings
We have five chapters in Montana: Billings, Bozeman, Flathead Valley, Helena, Missoula and a new club and Montana State University. Each chapter meets once a month with times, dates and contacts listed below. If you do not have a chapter in your town, please feel welcome to join any chapter meeting.
Activities are chosen by the chapter volunteers but all chapters receive guidance from the monthly national "Action Sheet" found HERE. Several chapters have teams within their chapter for working together on particular efforts such as writing letters to the editor, organizing events, or approaching elected officials of businesses.

Print Media Collaboration with Hilary Hutcheson a Success!
Flathead Valley volunteer Laurel Eastman recently reached out to Hilary Hutcheson with an idea for an opinion piece. This resulted in a fabulous op-ed written by Hilary and printed in papers across Montana.
Hilary is well-known in the national fly-fishing and outdoor guide industry. As a strong climate activist, she writes for a number of outdoor industry publications and has been active in TV and film. She runs Lary's Fly & Supply in her home town of Columbia Falls. Her short film "Drop" will kick off Montana CCL's online Earth Day panel discussion April 13th. Hilary may attend!
Look for Hilary's op-ed which has appeared in the following publications so far:
- Billings Gazette 1-28-2022
- Bozeman Chronicle 2-3-2022
- Missoulian 1-30-2022
- Montana Standard 1-26-2022
- Xpert Fly-Fisher 1-30-2022
Great work Laurel and Hilary!

February Monthly Call and Policy Update
|
|
February Speaker
Watch a conversation with James Balog, founder and director of Earth Vision Institute.
Many people now working to preserve a livable world were motivated after viewing the documentary "Chasing Ice." Pictures, as they say, are worth a thousand words, and James Balog's images and films speak volumes about the damage human activities have inflicted on our environment. For 35 years, the acclaimed photographer has documented how we have modified our planet's natural systems. He founded the Earth Vision Institute, whose work was featured in "Chasing Ice." He has a new book out, based on the film, "The Human Element: A Time Capsule from the Anthropocene," and we're thrilled to have him join us on this month's call.
|
|
Policy Update
The CCL Monthly Call also features policy updates from our CCL staff in D.C.! They have let us know that priorities other than climate are on the front burner this spring, but not to worry, they can still use the tool of budget reconciliation till September (where the Senate can pass a bill with only 50 votes).
On a positive note, we are still getting support in the House for the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act (H.R. 2307), resulting in a whopping 95 co-sponsors!
You can also keep up-to-date by following Tony Sirna's forum posts on CCL Community.
