IowaBio Bill Tracker - February 8, 2019
At this point in session, a lot of legislative energy is being spent on hammering out education funding, reforming the judicial nominating process and sports gambling. Subcommittees on other bills are being scheduled at a quick pace.
Several new bills IowaBio is tracking have been filed this week, including HF204, a bill on non-medical switching. We expect a Senate companion to be filed to the non-medical switching legislation, and for those bills, which IowaBio supports, to start moving next week. In addition, Representative Jacoby filed an annual biofuels infrastructure appropriation bill, HF228.
Two IEDA bills that will transform the Iowa Innovation Corporation into a bioscience development corporation moved out of subcommittees this week. A bill to give IEDA flexibility in awarding more angel investor tax credits that IowaBio supports, HSB84, moved through subcommittee and out of committee in the House.
At the federal level, IowaBio has been asked to sign onto a letter by the American Chemistry Council, encouraging our Senators to support the confirmation of interim administrator Andrew Wheeler to serve as the Administrator of EPA, to replace the unpopular Scott Pruitt who resigned last year.
