Monthly newsletter of Wahiawa United Methodist Church
March 2022
Dear Church Family,
This week marks the beginning of Lent, our forty day period of preparation for Easter. It is a season traditionally marked by repentance and fasting.
I hope you will join us for our Ash Wednesday service on Zoom at 7 p.m. If you would like to pick up ashes, they will be available from the church office. Note that this service will be online only--it will not have an in-person component.
On March 8, I will interview with the California-Pacific Conference Board of Ordained Ministry. As I reach this milestone on my journey to ordination, I want to express my gratitude to each of you for your support, encouragement, and prayers.
Many blessings,
Pastor Jessica

Join us on Wednesday at 7 p.m. on Zoom for a special Ash Wednesday Service to mark the beginning of Lent. If you would like ashes for anointing, you can pick them up at the church office Tuesday, March 1st or Wednesday, March 2nd between 8 a.m. and noon.
Join United Methodist Women members and friends for a weekly Lenten study, “Roll Down, Justice.” This inspiring study incorporates music, Scripture, small group discussion and reflection opportunities to help you deepen your walk with Christ this Lent. This is a six-week study beginning Thursday, March 3. There is no cost to participate and all are welcome. Please bring your Bible or have access to a digital version of the Bible. Feel free to attend just one session or join all six.
If you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary, graduation, remembering a departed loved one, or just praising God’s awesome presence in your life, consider signing up for altar flowers for Sunday worship! Call or email Jay in the church office to reserve a Sunday.
You will choose from three options: 1. Bring your own flower arrangement, 2. Order an "IN-HOUSE" arrangement by one of our church's resident florists, or 3. Order your own arrangement directly through a local florist.
Important Note: For the "IN-HOUSE" option there is a minimum donation of $60 that will go directly to the church general fund. Two-week notice is appreciated!
The Missions Committee is coordinating our church's response to the recent disaster in Tonga. We will be packing up rummage items as well as collecting donations to deliver to Pastor Piula and Wesley UMC. Please contact Rosie Dowson for details! You can also contribute financially at calpacumc.org/tonganrelief. Thank you for your generosity!
Faith Action invites our members to journey with us through Lent as we make connections between Jesus who was killed by the Roman empire and those who are criminalized and punished by the State today. Join Faith Action on this journey!
Below are some ways you can make a difference in making Hawaiʻi a safer and healthier place for us all to live:
Give to the Reimagine Fund givebutter.com/DzINsu or mail check to: PO Box 235950, Honolulu, HI 96823 with “Reimagine Fund” on memo line. Faith Action is attempting to raise $8,760 during Lent. This is roughly the amount it takes to incarcerate one person in Hawaiʻi for 40 days ($219 per day). 10% of this will be used in our advocacy to reform the cash bail system and 90% will be invested in organizations who support those coming out of incarceration in culturally grounded practices.
Learn more about our prison system faithactionhawaii.org/transformative-justice: See the resources put together by our Transformative Justice Task force. It costs $79,935 to incarcerate an individual for a year. Follow us on social media or sign up to get our e-letters to hear video interviews with various community members to reimagine how we could use $79,935 to truly invest in building healthier and safer community.

Thank you to our Congregational Care Committee for the surprise Valentine's chocolate boxes that they distributed during worship!
