Monthly newsletter of Wahiawa United Methodist Church
Dear Church Family,
October is a busy month in the life of Wahiawa United Methodist Church as our leadership team prepares for our annual Charge Conference meeting. Thank you to all of the faithful members of our Ad Council for their hard work preparing the numerous required forms and reports.
At Charge Conference this year, the Nominations Committee and Ad Council will propose that our church move toward a simplified organizational structure known as "single board" governance. This change, allowed by the Book of Discipline, consolidates the business committees of the church into a "single board" for the purposes of accountability and efficiency. If approved by our District Superintendent, the change would take place on January 1, 2021. If you have any questions, please reach out to me or a member of Ad Council and we can provide more information.
October is also the month of Honolulu Pride. The Outreach Committee and I will host three conversations about LGBTQ inclusion. I hope that you will join in these discussions, as they will be a valuable opportunity to reflect with fellow church members and learn more about the experiences of LGBTQ Christians.
Last, but not least, let's not forget Halloween! Join us on the evening of Friday, October 30 for a pumpkin carving/decorating contest on Zoom! I look forward to seeing you there!
Join us Sundays at 10 a.m. for worship on Zoom!

We want to see your family's carving/decorating skills! We're having a contest to see which family has the funniest, scariest, or most unique/creative pumpkin. First place and runner up prizes will be awarded in each of the three categories. Just show us your finished product via Zoom! One prize per family. Dr. Leo will be our moderator and the Congregational Care Committee will judge. Get your supplies ready and have fun!
As our denomination engages in an ongoing debate about LGBTQ inclusion, we are seeking to educate ourselves about the experiences of LGBTQ people in the church. This month, Pastor Jessica will facilitate three conversations as an opportunity for us to learn together. Our first session will be on Sunday, October 4th at 2 p.m. In preparation, please click below to hear Rev. Danny Cortez share his story. We will reflect on his journey during our conversation on Sunday, October 4th.

Our church supports the work of Faith Action, a 501(c)3 nonprofit which encourages us to advocate for compassion and justice in our state. During the month of October, Faith Action is having an "investment drive" where they are collecting donations to fund their work for the upcoming year. Please consider mailing a check payable to "Faith Action for Community Equity" to P.O. Box 235950, Honolulu, HI 96823 or making a donation online.
You still have a chance to donate to our church through Foodland's Give Aloha program! The deadline has been extended until October 2. We have already raised over $10,000 to help fund our ministry during the pandemic!
