Monthly newsletter of Wahiawa United Methodist Church
Dear Church Family,
Happy New Year and あけましておめでとう! January is a time for making resolutions and reflecting on the past. How has God been at work in your life and where is the Spirit leading you?
Every Sunday, we sing the first verse of "The Queen's Prayer." The next verse is:
Ko‘u noho mihi ‘ana / The remorse I feel (for my people)
A pa‘ahao ‘ia, / While imprisoned within these walls
‘O ‘oe ku‘u lama, / Thou art my light
Kou nani ko‘u ko‘o. / Thy glory my support
Queen Lili‘uokalani wrote these words just two years after the January 17, 1895 overthrow of the Hawaiian Monarchy by Americans, including Methodist Rev. Harcourt Peck. The lyrics speak to the Hawaiian people's loss and the Queen's faith.
At the next General Conference of The United Methodist Church, we will vote on a resolution of apology to the Hawaiian people for our church's participation in the overthrow. To learn more, view this special worship service at vimeo.com/275332974. I also encourage you to join a Hawaii District talk story on the topic on Sunday, January 17 at 1 p.m. (click zoom.us/j/7685057356 or dial 1-669-900-6833 and enter code 7685057356#).
Many Blessings, Pastor Jessica

Looking for a new spiritual practice for 2021? Consider picking up a copy of The Upper Room, a magazine with daily devotionals written by Christians all over the world. Each day there is a brief scripture reading and reflection. It is an easy way to engage with the Bible as a daily practice. If you would like a copy, please reach out to Jaylina at 622-4361 or email@example.com. Let her know if you would like a large-print version.
The finance team will provide a full report for 2020 in the February Agape.
