Monthly Newsletter of Wahiawa United Methodist Church
June 2022
Dear Church Family,
I hope you will join us on Saturday, June 11 at 11 a.m. for an all church picnic at Kaiaka Bay Beach Park in Haleiwa! It will be a wonderful time for fellowship, as well as a chance for us to send off the Valenti family with our love. You can find all the details below.
Sunday school and youth group are in full swing! Please see the calendar below for this month's schedule. Please do not hesitate to reach out to Ms. Fukuda at families@wahiawaumc.org if you have any questions.
Later this month, Bob, Nicole and I will represent our church at our Annual Conference, a gathering of pastors and lay leaders from our sister churches in Southern California, Hawai'i, Guam, and Saipan. During Annual Conference, I will be ordained as an elder in full connection. Thank you for your support, prayers, and encouragement on this journey!
Many blessings,
Pastor Jessica

We are settling into our new routine! Elementary school students will be in Sunday school every week during service, except first Sundays for Communion. Middle and high schoolers will meet for youth group after service on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month. Let Ms. Fukuda know if you have questions! You can email her at families@wahiawaumc.org or call/text 808-347-6196. Invite a friend or two to join! Newcomers are always welcome :)
Lori, Phil, Brayden, and Alyssa Valenti are moving at the end of the month! Instead of our usual lei send-off during worship, they have requested a beach picnic! Join us for a time of fun and fellowship at Kaiaka Bay Beach Park in Haleiwa on Saturday, June 11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring your picnic gear, sun protection, as well as food and drinks to share!
Part of Methodist tradition is our annual gatherings to celebrate, fellowship, and make critical decisions for our larger church body. This month, Pastor Jessica, Lay Leader Bob Lormand, and Lay Representative Nicole Nonies will vote on behalf of our church at our California-Pacific Annual Conference. Due to the pandemic, we will meet in a new hybrid format online and in Costa Mesa. For details, please see the Annual Conference website.
Scholarships for 2022-23
If you will be continuing your education during the next school year, we encourage you to apply for a scholarship from our church! Support can be for vocational training, college, or graduate school. Here is a link to the application, due by June 30. Please contact Emma Brown at emmab326@gmail.com with any questions. Priority will be given to those active in the life of our church.
On May 1, we celebrated the relaunch of our family ministries! Thank you to Kyle and the CCC for the delicious lunch and the Kariokas for leading our tie dye shirt project!
Missions continues to keep busy! On Saturday, May 14 church members helped at the beautification day at Wahiawa Elementary. During the entire month of May, we collected toiletries and cleaning supplies for RYSE's shelter for youth in Haleiwa.
Thank you to Leimomi, our Trustees lead, for organizing a successful church workday on May 21! Mahalo to everyone who came out to help. We appreciate you!
The California-Pacific Conference will be assembling 2,000 hygiene kits at this year's Annual Conference. The kits will be going to Mercy House and given out to the homeless. Our district's responsibility is to provide 2,000 personal handwritten notes with messages of hope and encouragement for the kits. Our church was able to submit just over 200!
We are looking for individuals and families to sponsor flowers for worship in July and August! Contact Jay in the church office to reserve a Sunday. You have the option to bring your own arrangement, order directly through a local florist, or make a donation to the church and order an "in-house" arrangement ($60 minimum with 2 weeks' notice).
