Monthly newsletter of Wahiawa United Methodist Church
Dear Church Family,
As we cheered on Leilehua grads driving by to pick up their diplomas, I could not help but think of the many rituals and traditions we are mourning during this time. I know that we all wish we could be together at church.
This week, we received new guidance from Bishop Grant Hagiya regarding how we are to relaunch our activities in person. Per his instruction, we have established a task force for our church, which is developing a plan of action to be approved by our District Superintendent. Given the strict requirements set forth by our bishop, it will likely be a while before we are able to meet in person. In the meantime, we will continue to gather together and worship God on Zoom.
It has been wonderful to see so many people join us from near and far! Thank you for your continued prayers, support, care, and generosity. May we continue to embody God's love here in Wahiawa.
Join us Sundays at 10 a.m. for worship on Zoom! Dial 1-669-900-6833 and enter code 584371383#
Use the Tithe.ly app or website to make your donation! You can use your credit card or bank account, as well as set up reoccurring payments. Note that there is a fee, so for a larger single donation, mailing a check may be a better option.

In the last couple months, two of our leaders have retired from their church work after many years of faithful service. A huge thank you to Tom Arinaga, who most recently served as the president of the Wahiawa UMC Foundation, and Flo Maruyama, who led our Outreach Committee and Family Ministries. Without a doubt, you were touched by their ministries, whether you attended one of Flo's fabulous parties or received a scholarship from the Foundation, contributed to our local community nonprofits like Alea Bridge or admired our new parking lot. Our deepest gratitude to Flo and Tom for all they have done for our church. We look forward to hanging out with them in their church retirement!
We cheered on Leilehua's class of 2020 as they drove by to receive their diplomas!
2020 Scholarship Applications Available!
Each year, our church awards scholarships to our students pursuing secondary education. The application for the 2020-2021 academic year is now available! For a copy of the application, please email Dina at firstname.lastname@example.org. Applications are due July 1. Submit by hard copy to the church office or email a scanned version to Dina. If you have any questions, please contact Emma Brown, Scholarships Chair at 627-0258.
Our church is thrilled to support Abby Modlin in her call to ordained ministry. On May 7, the Hawaii District Committee on Ordained Ministry (HCOM) voted to certify her as an ordination candidate! This summer, Abby will intern with Rev. Amy Wake at Trinity UMC in Pearl City. Our church will continue to reaffirm her call each year until she is ready to apply for commissioning. Congratulations to Abby! We are grateful for the blessing that she and the entire Modlin family are to our church.
It is the season of conferencing in The United Methodist Church! This time each year, we hold annual meetings with our sister congregations to make legislative decisions impacting our larger church. For us, this means that Pastor Jessica, Lay Leader Bob Lormand, and Abby Modlin represented us at the Hawaii District Conference on May 30. They will also vote on our behalf at the California-Pacific Annual Conference on June 17-20. Please let us know if you have any input or questions about these gatherings. You may follow Annual Conference proceedings online using the link below.
GriefShare has been postponed to later in the year with the hope that we will be able to meet in person. If you have any questions or if you are in need of spiritual
care, please contact Jim Higa or Pastor Jessica.
