Monthly newsletter of Wahiawa United Methodist Church
Dear Church Family,
Our church's Reopening Task Force met this past Saturday and started plans for our return to in-person gatherings. Pending the timing of our sanctuary reroofing, we hope to be worshipping in person by later this summer. Thank you to Leo Pascua and Lori Kaneshige for sharing their medical expertise.
We need your help! Bob Lormand is leading our team of volunteers who will coordinate the logistics of returning in person, including social distancing protocols. Please reach out to him at firstname.lastname@example.org or 753-3738 to get involved.
I am grateful to each of you for your generosity and commitment to our church amid the challenges and uncertainties of the pandemic. Your faithfulness affirms the work of the Spirit and the power of God's steadfast love.
Join us Sundays at 10 a.m. for worship on Zoom!

Thank you again to everyone who contributed generously to our roofing campaign! We raised over $30,000 from our congregation and received an additional $17,500 grant from the California-Pacific Conference of The United Methodist Church. After considering quotes from several vendors, the Wahiawa UMC Board has selected David's Custom Roofing and Painting Inc. as our roofer. We should have an update soon about the timing of construction. A special thanks to Janis Loventhal (Finance), Leimomi Albeso (Trustees), and Melvin Pascua, our subject matter expert!
Congratulations to our 2021 scholarship recipients! We send them off with our blessings, grateful that we can support their educational pursuits even in a small way. Thanks to Emma Brown, Rosie Dowson, Pattie Lambert, and Lori Valenti for reviewing applications!
The ballots are in! Thank you to everyone who voted to help decide whether our church will join the Reconciling Ministries Network and formally affirm LGBTQ people. We are in the process of counting the ballots and should have the results soon! If you have any questions, please contact James Higa, chair of our Reconciling Ministries Task Force.
Every June, representatives from across the California-Pacific Conference of The United Methodist Church gather for our Annual Conference. We meet to worship together, celebrate milestones, and vote on legislative items. For the second year, Annual Conference will be held on Zoom. Pastor Jessica, Lay Leader Bob Lormand, and Lay Delegate Nicole Nonies will serve as Wahiawa UMC's voting delegates. All are welcome to watch online!
On May 16, Pastor Jessica was formally commissioned as a provisional elder in the California-Pacific Conference of The United Methodist Church. Over the course of the next year, she will apply for full connection, the final step in her ordination process!
