Monthly newsletter of Wahiawa United Methodist Church
Dear Church Family,
We are living through a time of transition. Our military families are in the midst of PCS season. COVID-19 restrictions are relaxing. And we at Wahiawa UMC will shortly return to our sanctuary to worship in person.
Please see the detailed instructions below regarding our reopening on July 18. A special thanks to Bob Lormand and Jameson Ramelb for their logistical support!
It takes a whole lot of time and effort to care for our church campus. I want to express my thanks to Leimomi Albeso for all of her work as Trustees lead. We are awaiting dates, but we anticipate sanctuary reroofing in August-September. See pictures below of Momi's phenomenal effort coordinating 100 volunteers from the 2-27 Infantry Wolfhounds!
I ask that you pray for our church during this season. On July 11, our Board and ministry leaders will gather for a time of reflection, discernment, and preparation. Join us as we listen for how the Holy Spirit is calling our church--and calling each of us--to serve God in the months and years to come.
Join us Sundays at 10 a.m. for worship!

For those would like to join us in the Wahiawa UMC sanctuary, we will offer in-person worship services starting Sunday, July 18. If you would like to worship remotely, there will continue to be a Zoom option using the same link.
Preregistration - Seating will initially be limited to 50 people. Each week, everyone who wants to attend in person will need to preregister. Preregister by using this link or calling Jay at 622-4361.
Check-in Process - Plan to arrive at church at least 15 minutes early. Our volunteer team will scan your temperature, ask you questions about symptoms and exposure, and usher you to your seat.
Safety Protocol - Facemasks will be required at all times. We will abide by 6-feet social distancing between households. (Sorry no hugging or fist bumps!) At least for now, there will be no congregational singing allowed.
Physical Items - We will not provide paper bulletins or hymnals. Instead, you can print your bulletin in advance or read it off of your smartphone. If you need a seat cushion, please bring one from home.
Refreshments - There will be no food or drinks allowed, with the possible exception of Communion.
Bob Lormand and team will provide additional instructions on July 18. Thank you in advance for your patience and flexibility. Our hybrid service will be a work in progress, but we will do all we can to ensure things run smoothly and safely.
We are very grateful to Jameson Ramelb, who has faithfully run our sound board and slides for worship every Sunday for over two years! Jameson has let us know that he needs to step back from his responsibilities due to work, so we need to recruit 4-8 volunteers to take over his role. No experience is necessary! All you need is basic familiarity with a computer and a desire for worship to run smoothly. Contact Bob Lormand or Pastor Jessica for more information.
Susan Ramelb and Rosie Dowson have been doing a wonderful job leading our Missions Committee. This past month, the Dowson family delivered all of these supplies to Residential Youth Services and Empowerment! We are grateful to be able to support the work RYSE is doing with houseless youth in Haleiwa.
Through Aged to Perfection, we connected with Chaplain Kara Dreflak-Utley and soldiers from the 2-27 Infantry Wolfhounds. We only expected 35 volunteers, but 100 came to help! They painted our outdoor railings and pruned our bushes. Thank you to Leimomi Albeso and her team: Joshua Kresnak, Shirley Ibarra, Melvin Pascua, Lahela Pascua, James Higa, and Bob Lormand. Thank you also to our parsonage neighbors Chris Bethke and Linda Sakaguchi for lending us their trailer and taking the cuttings to the dump. What a blessing!
New Upper Room Available!
The July-August issue of The Upper Room is now available in the church office. The Upper Room is a magazine with short, daily devotionals written by Christians all over the world.
If you would like a copy, please reach out to Jay at email@example.com or 622-4361. Let her know if you would like a large-print version.
Wahiawa UMC has joined the Reconciling Ministries Network! It means that we have formally decided to affirm LGBTQ people in the life and leadership of our church. Our Reconciling Ministries Task Force will continue to host educational events as we live into this calling. Please do not hesitate to reach out to James Higa, Bob Lormand, Lani Nedbalek, Nicole Nonies, Atina or Leo Pascua if you have questions!
