Women of Distinction Awards Presented by Assemblywoman, Tremaine S. Wright.

In April Elmy’s Special Services attended the 56th Assembly District Women of Distinction Awards Ceremony organized by Assemblywoman, Tremaine S. Wright at the Skylight Gallery located in the Restoration Plaza in Brooklyn, NY. The ceremony celebrated the groundbreaking achievements of women leaders working across a range of fields in our community.

This year’s Women of Distinction Awards were presented to women who exhibited outstanding leadership and expertise within their respective fields; served as role models to women and girls; advocated for positive social change; conveyed citizenship and community service; exemplified a commitment to advancing the diverse voices of all women. We at Elmy’s Special Services were honored to be included in this celebration of womanhood and female empowerment. We look forward with much enthusiasm to next year's event!

Tremaine S. Wright is the New York State 56th District Assemblywoman serving the Bedford Stuyvesant and Crown Heights community. Wright is an outstanding community leader who resides in Bedford-Stuyvesant where she continues to work to improve quality of life for her community.

ESS Provides Resources at the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan Special Needs Fair

Elmy’s Special Services attended the annual Special Needs School Fair presented by Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan and NYL Lifestart partner. Each year representatives from preschools through high schools serving the New York City special needs community come together on-site at the JCC to answer questions and provide useful information and resources to participants of the event.

Ambassadors from ESS got the opportunity to inform attendees about the services and support we provide for individuals who are diagnosed with developmental or emotional disabilities in After School, Day Habilitation, Respite, Summer Camp and Home Care among others.

This year's Special Needs School Fair was generously supported by MassMutual Metro New York Special Care Program. For more information on Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan and the full list of participants please visit:

#LightItUpBlue For Autism Awareness Month

Autism Awareness was in April. During April, we here at Elmy’s Special Services took the time to increase the global understanding and raise awareness about people with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Autism is the fastest growing developmental disability in the United States. According to a study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Autism directly affects 1 in 68 children including 1 in 42 boys. More children will be diagnosed with autism this year than with AIDS, diabetes, and cancer combined.

ESS proudly supports individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Our primary goal is to educate, serve, and support individuals who are diagnosed with developmental or emotional disabilities. For this reason, we joined forces this year with the Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) to spotlight autism through an online campaign featuring an interactive “spotlight” and a downloadable poster that anyone can print and display in their home or business.

Help us raise Autism awareness  everyday and join us in the international “Light it up Blue” campaign to raise awareness on social media by including the #LightItUpBlue and #NYSOPWDD tags in your posts!
