Weekend Respite
Enrollment Grows in Brooklyn and Queens.

Elmy’s Special Services Respite is a combination program that provides temporary relief for families or other caregivers of people with developmental disabilities who reside in Brooklyn. Through grassroots campaigning and dedicated commitment from staff and volunteers, we have witnessed an increased enrollment in Brooklyn and Queens.

"Enrollment is growing and the Individuals are having fun" says Day Habilitation Supervisor, Michelle Barker. "They are going places they have never been before and they are engaging with the community in ways that they have never done before."

Respite is offered outside of the home and is available overnight from Friday to Sunday. It is scheduled and time-limited and is intended to allow families time for errands, vacations, and other planned activities.

Last weekend on December 1st, individuals visited the full-service American restaurant and a video arcade, Dave and Buster. At the venue, individuals enjoyed hundreds of state of the art games to play including bowling, virtual reality, dance revolution, and race car driving among others. Individuals also enjoyed complimentary breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Enrollment in Elmys Special Services weekend respite is currently ongoing. For more information on our Respite services,  please visit us at

Reaching New Heights

Elmy's Special Services Day Habilitation Center

Elmy's Special Services reaches new heights as production continues on our new Day Habilitation Center. The Day Habilitation With/Without Walls is a program that provides individuals with an environment that enhances their academic and prevocational skills. Our new Day Habilitation Center set to open in 2019 will provide individuals with more resources, space and opportunties to further academic enrichment and personal growth.

The new facility will include a bigger game room with up to date systems; an expanded library with more computers, learning stations and literary resources; a modernized gym with sensory equipment; an arts and craft room; a nurses station; showers in the bathroom; a locker room for individuals and staff; and a performance stage. We have also included a store where individuals can volunteer within the program to gain work experience.

The Day Habilitation center is an intergral part of programing at Elmys Special Services. We strive to be an incubator for academic enrichment, personal growth, community involvement and socialization for individuals with developmental disabilities in the Greater New York City Area. A new center that expands upon these core principals means that we are on track to reaching new heights.
