Jesus speaks these words about the Holy Spirit, whom He sent on the feast of Pentecost (the novena for which begins on Thursday, the Solemnity of the Ascension). He also gives us the promise in this week’s Gospel:
‘I will not leave you orphans; I will come back to you’ (John 14.18)
Speaking of which(!), it’s been a real joy to have been able to share Mass with you on Zoom over the last couple of days, and we hope to bring together as much of our community together as possible tomorrow – see below for details. Please have a look also at this week’s newsletter!

You are very warmly invited to join us on Zoom for Mass, every day,* at 9am (online from 8.45am). Just click the link below:
Join us for Mass
And you may need these numbers:
Meeting ID: 750 028 1276
Extremely complicated password: 123

* 9am every day except this Wednesday (20th), which will be 6.30pm

Why Zoom? It’s not perfect, but it’s free, and it has the advantage over a simple live-stream of there being a greater sense of community – being able to see one another, and to speak after Mass – as well as inviting people to do readings, and so on, which we’ll begin to try tomorrow.
Don’t have Zoom? Get it for free from here.

Shy? Don’t worry – you don’t have to share your video if you’d prefer not to! Though it’s lovely to see everybody who’s happy to.

Once again, many thanks to Geoff Summers for hooking us up with WiFi in the church so that this is possible.

I think the sound/video quality is as good as we can get it for now, though people seem to be saying it’s perfectly good.
But we have a lot of flexibility in terms of times, etc. – so please get in touch! For example, if you’re working and would appreciate a lunchtime or evening Mass… or if you’d prefer Sunday Mass a little later in the morning? Or (just as importantly) please let us know if the current arrangement suits you well!

Also, if you’d be happy to take a turn at reading, or singing a psalm, please let me know and I’ll co-ordinate!
To send us a message, just reply to this email.

There’ll be two Masses for the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord – a vigil Mass on Wednesday at 6.30pm, and 9am on Thursday morning as usual. There’ll be no 9am Mass on Wednesday due to a funeral.

We remain mindful of how blessed we are in this country to be able to respond to this crisis as well as we have, when in so many parts of the world people are defenceless.

The statue in Our Lady of Lourdes church has got her May-blossom crown after all!
A couple of people have mentioned the possibility of saying the Rosary together over Zoom – would this be something you’d be interested in? Would you be willing to lead it? If so, which day and what time would suit you? Many thanks!

The Good Counsel Network is keeping its annual day of Prayer and Fasting this Wednesday (20th May), for the intention of an end to abortion and euthanasia in our country. The poster on their website is from last year, but the message is the same… except for the bit about going to Mass!
