NEW! Mental Health Peer Mentor: A qualification to support peer mentoring at your school or college

The Level 2 Mental Health Peer Mentor course is suitable for sixteen to eighteen year olds studying in schools and colleges who are interested in and able to support the mental health and wellbeing of their peers.

You can choose the best way to deliver this course to your students:
  • A member(s) of staff at your school or college can deliver this qualification after a short ‘train the trainer’ style induction by a member of staff at Minds Ahead
  • An experienced teacher, trainer and mental health specialist at Minds Ahead can deliver the course for your students online or face to face online or face to face

Young People on the Margins book

The culmination of ten years of research from @TheCfEY! 'Young People On The Margins: Priorities for Action in Education and Youth' is out this month!

This key new book provides a new way of understanding the many ways that young people in England are pushed to the margins of the education system and wider society. It is firmly rooted in the latest evidence and draws on a depth of experience. It includes a chapter on Mental Health which Minds Ahead contributed to.

Dean Johnstone, Chief Executive of Minds Ahead said:
This is a key resource for anyone seeking to understand the issues of mental health in education today. It rightly focuses on the sociological rather than psychological perspective to mental health, thereby rooting itself in the realities and scope of schools and colleges. The book also makes five recommendations for change, one of which is the development of new School Mental Health Specialists and better careers outreach programmes to attract more into the professions.

Minds Ahead are acting on these and are launching two new programmes this year: the School Mental Health Specialist postgraduate Diploma for existing staff and the Mental Health Peer Mentor qualification, for 16-18 year olds. Young people on the margins will become key reading for the school leaders on our range of mental health development programmes. You can get a 20% discount with the code FLY21 at Routledge.

Loic Menzies, Chief Executive of the Centre for Education and Youth, shares his thoughts on mental health in schools and colleges. In 2018 Minds Ahead and CfEY worked together to research and produce a report which set the ground for the School Mental Health Specialist programme.
