Receiving God's Word With Joy

For in spite of persecution you received the word with joy inspired by the Holy Spirit, so that you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia. (1 Thessalonians 1:6-7)

A church that endures is a church that receives God’s word “with joy inspired by the Holy Spirit.” A church that is a model to other churches is not determined by the size of its budget, the number of members, the quality of its facilities, the amount of programming or how much outreach the church undertakes every year.

A church that is a model to other churches is determined by its faith in God, though most people think the quality of a church is determined by measurable statistics. And most churches do a lot of record-keeping. For instance, last year MCCLV offered 131 classes for adults in spiritual formation. Budget numbers and specific accounts of MCCLV's outreach are shared on a monthly basis. But these things will not inspire churches in Macedonia or Achaia or Allentown or Macungie.

What inspires MCCLV and how God works through the church to inspire others is the ways in which a church receives God’s word with joy inspired by the Holy Spirit despite persecution or pandemic.
