Dear <<First Name>>,

I pray that you are having an amazing week!

Last week we focused on being Focused on Mission and how we stay focused on Jesus and practice discipline as disciples in order to stay focused on our mission.

This week I have had the joy this week to spend 3 days with our incredible Confirmation Class of 2021-- ages 13-15!
It is easy to become unfocused when hanging out with a group of youth-- conversation can move to movies, school, space, to the most random conversation possible.  And yet, we stayed focused on Jesus in our conversations.  We had time to play, to learn, to pray, and to be still.   They are amazing youth and we wrapped up our class spending Monday- Wednesday 10 am - 3 pm together this week.  We began Confirmation in April and these youth have the opportunity to be confirmed on July 11th at the 9:45 am service.  They have covered 15 lessons of the Old Testament, 15 lessons of the New Testament, and 15 Lessons about Church History and Doctrine.  Each Sunday and Wednesday evening they gathered and asked hard questions and explored their faith more deeply.  I am so proud of each of them and the time and dedication they gave.

Yesterday, I drove to Richmond to officiate the Celebration of Life for one of my mother's dear friends.  He died last year, but they had not yet had the opportunity to have the service until now.  It was such a joy to share with his family and celebrate his life.  Afterward, I stopped by to see my sister whom I have not had the chance to hug in a long time!  I got to see my wonderful nieces and have Italian ice cream.  Unfortunately, I ended up locking my keys in my car!  I had hoped to get home sooner, and even though I was delayed- being stuck outside of an Italian Ice Cream place isn't the worst place to be.  I realized as I drove home that my mind felt rejuvenated.  Sermon Series ideas began to flood as if God was pouring them on me and I did my best to record them using Siri on my phone.  I realized that the time of stopping for a couple of hours brought a moment of unhurried sabbath to my day.   I was thankful for the time, even though it wasn't part of my plan.

Sometimes an expected moment doesn't take your focus off the mission but allows you space to have greater clarity.

Next week, I am grateful for space to listen deeply to the Holy Spirit and plan sermons for the next year as I take Study Leave.
Rev. Joe Varner, the pastor at Thalia UMC will be covering pastoral care needs for me while I am away.
Rev. Joe Varner can be reached at (434) 547-2655.
If you have thoughts, ideas, questions that you have always wanted to hear a sermon about, please email me at betha@ccumc.net.

I hope to see you Sunday for worship either online or in person!

My Sermon this Sunday is "Boldly Spread the Message" based on
1 John 1:1-2:6 and Acts 4:1-31.

In God's Love,
Pastor Beth

You can worship IN-PERSON Indoors for the Contemporary Service at 9:45 am and those who are Fully Vaccinated may worship without masks.

You can worship IN-PERSON Indoors for worship at 11:15 am.  Those who are Fully Vaccinated may worship without masks.

You may wonder- How do we know if someone is Fully Vaccinated?

We will continue to utilize our Health Acknowledgment Screening whereby we ask for an affirmation to the following statements:
1) I am not experiencing two or more symptoms of COVID-10.
2) I have not been in contact with anyone experiencing symptoms of COVID-19.
3) I have not tested positive for COVID-19, nor am I awaiting test results.
4) If I have tested positive for COVID-19 I have complete resolution of symptoms OR (if asymptomatic) I have completed 10 days of self-isolation.
5) I will immediately notify the pastor if within 5 days after attending this event I develop 2 or more symptoms of COVID-19.

We will not be asking people to show proof of vaccination, we will rely on the mutual trust we hold in one another as sisters and brothers in Christ and children of God in this worshiping community to love and care for another.   We ask that if you are not yet fully vaccinated, that you wear a mask for the care and protection of those who are most vulnerable.

236 individuals were helped by the Storehouse Food Pantry and Midweek Meals this week. Praise God!

Thank you for joining us and for your continual support - see you on Sunday!
As CCUMC has moved to in-person services, it is also time to return to a full counter schedule.   If you have served as a counter previously or are interested in serving as a offertory counter, please contact Brenda Kellogg (brendajkellogg@gmail.com or 757-373-2917) or Donn Lee (donnl@ccumc.net or 757-427-3272).The more we have to share in this service to our church, the longer the rotation schedule.  Do you have an hour you can donate to the church every 6 to 8 weeks?
