Missions Fundraiser The time to vote is coming to a close! Voting ends Easter Sunday, April 4th, and will be tallied on Friday, April 9th. If you have not voted, click here for detailed instructions on how to vote. Please make sure to complete both portions of the voting process (filling out the form, then donating on Breeze).
On the First Sunday after Easter, I’ll paint the front door of my house (on Facebook Live) the color that received the most votes/dollars. The current front runner is Coral Bells!
My door may even become a conversational piece in my neighborhood and even open more doors/opportunities for me to share the love of Jesus with my neighbors!
Holy Thursday on April 1 Join us for Seder Meal via Zoom In preparation for our Seder, it may be helpful to understand the cultural and historical events that precipitated the Passover festival.
Read Exodus, Chapter 5 that sets up the persecution of the Jewish people in Egypt.
Then in Exodus Chapters 6-11 read of the dynamics between Moses and Pharaoh.
Finally, in Exodus Chapter 12 there is the institution of the Passover celebration.
Then, turn to the Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 26 for the significance of Jesus’ celebration of the Passover with his disciples prior to his arrest, torture, and crucifixion.

In-Person Sunday School
In-Person Sunday School is back in full swing at the 9:45 service. As usual, on Easter Sunday there will be no Sunday School so children may worship with their families. The Nursery will be available for age 2 and under. Beginning Sunday, April 12th we will offer Children’s Church during the 11:15 in-person service. Children’s Church will begin after the children’s moment and is similar to sunday school, however, it follows a slightly different format.
Virtual Sunday School: For families who are not ready to return to in-person Sunday School yet, a short lesson/devotional will be posted on the Facebook page (CCUMC Kid's Community) that children can view with their families.
We are so excited to be welcoming back our friends to in-person Sunday School!
The Nursery is Open!
Our Nursery is open for in-person services. Beginning on Easter Sunday, the Nursery will also be available for 11:15 service. Due to social distancing guidelines there is currently a limit of 4 children at a time. Families can sign up ahead of time for the nursery to secure a spot, otherwise it is first come first serve. To sign up, please email Gina Lane at GinaL@ccumc.net. We are not using the children's wing right now so families must use the outside entrance to the nursery to drop off their children to the nursery. The Nursery is for children age 0-2. These children do not have to be masked. As an added precaution, since Nursery age children are not masked, Nursery staff will do a temperature check of each child entering the nursery.
Thank you to everyone that donated candy, volunteered, and came out to the Easter Egg Hunt! We had beautiful weather, and tons of eggs with candy. It was so nice to see many of our families come out for this event!
The Leadership Board invites you to a CCUMC Heartbeat Update Gathering - A Quarterly Gathering offered by the Leadership Board of CCUMC to share how God is at work in and through our church. Our sponsored child, Roseline, lives in Burkina Faso with her family. The children will be creating a Preschool Fun Day, scheduled for 10am-12pm. on April 23rd, to raise money for Roseline’s sponsorship. We will be brainstorming with the children regarding the types of activities they would like to plan, create, or participate in to raise money for Roseline. More details on this exciting outreach will be coming soon!
Let's Connect and Pray Together
You are loved.
You are missed.
I'd like to pray with you.
What do we gain by praying together?
A great deal- it reminds us of who we are and how we are here together to love one another and to lift one another up in the love of Jesus Christ. Even if it is just 5 minutes-- it is worth it. You are worth spending time with. I care about you and I want to spend time with you.
In our Pre-Covid days- I'd see you in the Narthex, during coffee hour, or at our Wednesday Mid-week meal, and I could hear about how your life is going, and pray with you. I miss being able to do that.
I'd like to Zoom/talk with you and pray with you and remind you that God loves you, so do I, so does your church.
Click here to learn how we can spend some time in prayer together.
Prayer Shawl Ministry
We are still doing prayer shawl ministry and wrapping our community in the love of Jesus Christ!
Do you knit or crochet? Joyce Thompson has yarn and prayer shawl kits that anyone can use to make a prayer shawl.
If you are not sure how to make prayer shawls or have questions about this important and meaningful ministry, Joyce Thompson can help you.
Please reach out to Joyce by emailing her at email@example.com.
During this time when we are physically distant from one another, we are joined to one another in prayer.
Click on the image above to open our current prayer list!
Join the Prayer Team We are looking for Prayer Warriors. People who love to Pray. Pray for what or who you ask? Pray over our weekly Prayer List, be willing to pray if an immediate need comes in. Pretty simple. If you are interested please contact Caryl McBride Carylthree@cox.net or click the image below.
Have you heard about Stephen Ministries? They are people within your church providing one-to-one care to people going through a crisis or difficult time. We currently have several people available to meet with you. If you want to know more, call Sharon Potter at 757-630-4148.
Last week, we were able to serve 100 meals to people in need. This week we are having pork chops, baked beans, and a vegetable medley. Thank you for your witness and service to the people of Virginia Beach!
Midweek Meals Looking for Volunteers
As many of you know, we have been serving midweeks on a to-go basis due to Covid restrictions set by the United Methodist Church. We very much miss gathering for our Midweek Meal each week, seeing one another, and hearing how you all are doing. Due to the restrictions, we also have fewer volunteers available to help cook and prepare the meals before assembling them for our curbside service. At this time, we are compiling a list of volunteers who may be willing to help as needed and possibly on a monthly rotation.
If you are interested in learning and becoming a part of the team if the need arises, please contact the kitchen staff at firstname.lastname@example.org.
It's Time to Go Progresso!
Storehouse Food Pantry Similar to our Midweeks Meals, the fact that we are not all together at church each week has meant that the Food Pantry bins are not filled each week as they were in our Pre-COVID life.
What the Food Pantry needs the most of is cans of Progresso Soup! Any recipe, any kind! The Food Pantry needs 180 cans of soup a week and I believe we can make that happen!
When you are grocery shopping, please consider picking up some cans of Progresso Soup. If you shop and order online, you can even have this delivered to the church or we are happy to come and pick up from your home as well.
And if you shop on Amazon please utilize Amazon Smile so that your Amazon shopping also benefits Courthouse Community UMC.
On March 24th, 40 families (131 individuals) were helped by the generosity of the Storehouse Food Pantry. Thank you for your continued support of this vital mission!
Elizabeth River District News
Save the Date: Saturday, April 24 from 9 am to 12 Noon - Both/And webinar sponsored by the Elizabeth River and James River Districts. Before the global pandemic, the majority of congregations who were streaming worship online were (more or less) creating an experience for the people gathered in-person in their buildings. Leaders would often (at some point) look into the camera and say, "And if you're worshiping with us online, we're glad you've joined us." They'd then look back at the people gathered in-person and continue on with a worship experience designed as a physical gathering.
This meant that the home audience were observers of what was happening in real time on-site. They could watch, but not truly participate. This model (arguably) worked because - at the time - we knew nothing different.
In March 2020, when congregations ended in-person worship and went online (many for the first time) the methodology for streaming worship completely shifted paradigms. Everything was about the home audience. There was no one in the room, and the people at home could feel that shift. They knew they were being talked to directly.
Now we face one of the most critical moves in the next iteration of the online worship experience. As we move back into our buildings, we mustn't return to making people at home observers after talking directly to them for so long. They'll feel that too.
We also can't take an approach where we treat the in-person crowd as the studio audience, providing the laugh or clap track, for the people watching at home. Neither of these audiences should feel secondary.
If we fail to think about how to create a BOTH/AND scenario as we go back to in-person worship, we will lose so much of what we've gained in these last seven plus months.
Join us for Both/And: Maximizing Hybrid Worship Experiences For Online and In-Person Audiences
This 3- hour workshop will delve into strategies for how to create powerful transformative worship where no one feels like they’re an afterthought.
It will explore:
• Re-imagining worship for both/and
• How to create interactive both/and experiences
• Bringing at home and in-person audiences together in real time
• Alternative opportunities for online audiences watching in-person livestreams
• Repurposing in-person worship for online audiences
• Strategies for adapting practices for both/and
• Avoiding letting your groove becoming a rut
• And more Click here to register!
Have something you want to add to the E-Circuit Rider? Please send any information and/or graphics to Stephanie at email@example.com by 10 am every Wednesday. Any information received after this time will be added to the following week's email.
