Dear <<First Name>>,

This Sunday begins Holy Week, an opportunity to walk with Jesus each day as he walks to the cross.  We begin Holy Week with Palm Sunday and I hope to worship with you tomorrow morning.  Our sermon tomorrow is, "Door 1 or Door 2?" based on Psalm 118: 1-2, 19-29, Mark 11: 1-11, and  Mark 14:1-15:47

I hope you will join us for worship experiences throughout Holy Week.
Each day through Holy Week join us on Facebook for a noon devotion.

Gather with us on Zoom for a Sedar meal on Thursday evening at 7 pm-- see links and information below.
On Good Friday, worship with the Elizabeth River District at an online service at 7 pm or come in-person to worship at church at 7 pm.
Come and Pray on Holy Saturday.
Celebrate the Risen Savior on Easter Sunday at one of three in-person services or two online services.

I look forward to shouting Hosanna with you tomorrow!
Jesus is the one who saves us!
Let's shout this good news to the world!

In God's Love,
Pastor Beth

Essential healthcare workers have given so very much, even sacrificing time with their families so that they can care for those most in need.

You may remember that last spring we shared a kindness parade with our neighbors at Sentara Princess Anne Hospital.

To continue to pray for and encourage them, let’s write a note of thanks and encouragement to each staff member at Sentara Princess Anne (SPA) starting with those who work on the COVID-19 related unit.

Knowing someone cares and is praying for you, makes a huge difference in our lives!

We may not have the name of every person who works there, but perhaps we can write, “Dear SPA Staff”  so that they know that their neighbors down the street at Courthouse Community UMC love, appreciate, and thank God for them.

As your cards come into the office, we will deliver them to Sentara Princess Anne.

We will begin with the COVID-19 Unit and keep writing notes of thanks and encouragement until each person has been lifted up!

Thank you for your help in showing our neighbors we love them!

There is still time to pick up a Holy Week Worship Packet or download items linked throughout this email.

If you would like the Holy Week worship packet delivered to you, please email Pastor Beth at betha@ccumc.net or text her at (804) 930-7627 and we will make sure you receive the Holy Week packet before Palm Sunday.

The Holy Week packet includes a palm cross for Palm Sunday, a Seder meal liturgy booklet, Good Friday Way of the Cross, and Holy Saturday prayers.

For Easter, we hope you will join us for worship in person or online.

Come by on Easter and place a flower in the flower cross and take a picture with your family by the Flower Cross to celebrate the Risen Christ!

Holy Thursday, April 1

Join us for Seder Meal via Zoom.

In preparation for our Seder, it may be helpful to understand the cultural and historical events that precipitated the Passover festival.

Read Exodus, Chapter 5 that sets up the persecution of the Jewish people in Egypt.

Then in Exodus Chapters 6-11 read of the dynamics between Moses and Pharaoh.

Finally, in Exodus Chapter 12 there is the institution of the Passover celebration.

Then, turn to the Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 26 for the significance of Jesus’ celebration of the Passover with his disciples prior to his arrest, torture, and crucifixion.

The Apostle's Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth;

And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;
the third day he rose from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and sitteth at the right hand of God
the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick
and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic** church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

Last week we had 46 people worship with us in-person, and 435 people worshiped with us on Facebook Live! The church also received a total of $21,815.34 in giving both electronically and in person.

Thank you for joining us and for your continual support - see you on Sunday!
Almsgiving Opportunity
You may have heard of pastors excitedly challenging their congregations with a mission giving goal, culminating in the pastor dyeing their hair a particular color or shaving their heads! Friends, I have no plans to change my hair.  Instead, let’s paint my front door! Every dollar given to CCUMC Missions during Lent will be equal to one vote to choose the color!

Here's how to vote for your favorite color:
Click
here to add your email, select your color, and submit this form. Then click here to donate a dollar amount equal to the number of votes you would like to cast for that color. If you would like to vote for a rainbow door, send Stephanie an email at stepht@ccumc.net.

For more detailed instructions, click here.

On the First Sunday after Easter, I’ll paint the front door of my house (on Facebook Live) the color that received the most votes/dollars.  My door may even become a conversational piece in my neighborhood and even open more doors/opportunities for me to share the love of Jesus with my neighbors!

Easter Sunday Worship Survey
We look forward to you worshiping with us on Easter Sunday!  And we hope you will invite friends to worship as well!

We want to hear from you! Please click or tap the image below to fill out a brief survey on how you plan to worship with us.
(This is not a registration or RSVP - information gathered in this survey will help us plan for worship.)

Glory Sightings
We want to know and share the good news of Jesus Christ! Glory Sightings are those small or unexpected places in our lives and churches where we see God working in noticeable ways. Some call them "God winks" or "shiny penny moments" - we call them Glory Sightings! How are you seeing God at work here at Courthouse Community UMC? Click the image below to share your Glory Sightings with us!
In-Person Sunday School
In-Person Sunday School is back in full swing at the 9:45 service.  As usual, on Easter Sunday there will be no Sunday School so children may worship with their families.  The Nursery will be available for age 2 and under.  Beginning Sunday, April 12th we will offer Children’s Church during the 11:15 in-person service.  Children’s Church will begin after the children’s moment and is similar to Sunday School, however, it follows a slightly different format.

Virtual Sunday School:  For families who are not ready to return to in-person Sunday School yet, a short lesson/devotional will be posted on the Facebook page (CCUMC Kid's Community) that children can view with their families.  The lesson is also posted on our website which can be accessed here:  Virtual Sunday School
Nursery Open This Sunday!
As a reminder, the Nursery has been open since mid-January for the 9:45 service.  Due to social distancing guidelines there is currently a limit of 4 children at a time. Families can sign up ahead of time for the nursery to secure a spot, otherwise it is first come first serve. To sign up, please email Gina Lane at GinaL@ccumc.net. We are not using the children's wing right now so families must use the outside entrance to the nursery to drop off their children to the nursery. The Nursery is for children age 0-2. These children do not have to be masked. As an added precaution, since Nursery age children are not masked, Nursery staff will do a temperature check of each child entering the nursery.

The Leadership Board invites you to a CCUMC Heartbeat Update Gathering - A Quarterly Gathering offered by the Leadership Board of CCUMC to share how God is at work in and through our church.  This is a time to ask questions and learn more about the mission and vision of CCUMC and reflect on the vital signs of our discipleship.

Leading up to the Heartbeat Update on April 18th, each week we will share videos so that you can get to know members of the Leadership Board. Look for the first introductions next week!

If you have particular questions for the Leadership Board, you can submit any questions you have before the Heartbeat Update by clicking
here.  By submitting any questions you have now, members of the board have time to make sure we can honor our time together most effectively.   Of course, questions are also welcome during the Heartbeat Update Meeting as well.

The Heartbeat Update Gathering will take place on Sunday, April 18th at 2pm via Zoom.
