Courthouse Community United Methodist Church, Virginia Beach, VA.

February 26, 2021

Dear <<First Name>>,
How many doors do you have in your home?

This is the question I asked the children at church last week.   I'm looking forward to hearing the results of their Door Scavenger Hunts. At our home, we have counted 22 doors.  In the Kingdom Kids message last week, I encouraged families to use the total number of doors to create a goal of memorizing scriptures, creating a list of acts of kindness, or writing a certain number of encouraging notes.

Could the doors of our home, help us open more doors of God's love?

Jesus is our door.
He is the door to God's everlasting love.
He is the door of grace.
He is the door of hope.
He is the door of our salvation.

When we come to him, and walk with him, our whole life changes.

He is always there protecting us and guiding us.
What does life look when we recognize that he is our door to an abundant life?

I look forward to worshiping with you this Sunday, February 28th online at 9 am and 11 am or in-person at 9:45 am.  Our sermon this Sunday is, "The Open Door based on
Psalm 23; John 10:1-8.

In God's Love,
Pastor Beth

The Apostle's Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth;

And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;
the third day he rose from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and sitteth at the right hand of God
the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick
and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic** church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

Sermon Series: Doors of Discipleship
We know that our gifts of time, talent, and treasure, make it possible to open more doors to the love of Jesus throughout our community!  Every mission opportunity CCUMC offers, reveals that our hearts, minds, and doors are open to our community, and most importantly, shows others that the love of Jesus is for them and with them.

This year, our Lenten sermon series takes us through Doors of Discipleship.  We invite you to give to CCUMC Missions with your almsgiving as we fling open the doors of God's incarnational love through genuine acts of love and service here in the Heart of VB!

Almsgiving Opportunity
You may have heard of pastors excitedly challenging their congregations with a mission giving goal, culminating in the pastor dying their hair a particular color or shaving their heads! Friends, I have no plans to change my hair.  Instead, let’s paint my front door! Every dollar given to CCUMC Missions during Lent will be equal to one vote to choose the color!

Here's how to vote for your favorite color:
Click
this link to add your email, select your color, and submit this form. Then visit this link to donate a dollar amount equal to the number of votes you would like to cast for that color. From there, Donn Lee (our Business Manager) and Stephanie (our Church Administrator) will connect dollars donated to votes cast for colors.

For example: John Smith wants to vote for Jay Blue. John goes to
this link, puts in his email and casts his vote for Jay Blue. Then, John will go to this link, select Give To Mission Fund, and donates $15 to vote 15 times.

On the First Sunday after Easter, I’ll paint the front door of my house (on Facebook Live) the color that received the most votes/dollars.  My door may even become a conversational piece in my neighborhood and even open more doors/opportunities for me to share the love of Jesus with my neighbors!

Worship
During the last week of Lent, known as Holy Week, many churches will have additional worship services to mark the last days before Jesus’ crucifixion. You could attend a Maundy Thursday service, the Stations of the Cross, or a Good Friday service. Watch for your email and church announcements for Courthouse Community UMC’s Holy Week schedule!
Glory Sightings
We want to know and share the good news of Jesus Christ! Glory Sightings are those small or unexpected places in our lives and churches where we see God working in noticeable ways. Some call them "God winks" or "shiny penny moments" - we call them Glory Sightings! How are you seeing God at work here at Courthouse Community UMC? Click the image below to share your Glory Sightings with us!
In-Person Sunday School

We are excited to begin phasing back In-Person Sunday School beginning this Sunday, February 21st.  Please see the graphic to see the phase back dates.  Sunday School will be held in the FLC.  Children will start out in service and after Kingdom Kids Sunday School teachers will escort them over to the FLC.  Parents can pick up their children in the FLC at the conclusion of service.  All children will be masked and we will follow 6ft social distancing.

We are so excited to be welcoming back our friends to in-person Sunday School!

Virtual Wednesday Nights: Wednesday Night Small Group will be offered for Age 4-Fifth grade throughout Lent beginning February 24th-March 31st. It will be held 6:30-7:00pm via Zoom.  Our theme will be "Walk With Jesus".  Here is the Zoom Link. Meeting ID: 837 1076 8926.  Passcode: ccumc

Virtual Sunday School:  For families who are not ready to return to in-person Sunday School yet, a short lesson/devotional will be posted on the Facebook page (CCUMC Kid's Community) that children can view with their families. Virtual Wednesday nights are also an alternative for families who are not ready to return in-person.
Nursery Open This Sunday!
As a reminder, the Nursery has been open since mid-January for the 9:45 service.  Due to social distancing guidelines there is currently a limit of 4 children at a time. Families can sign up ahead of time for the nursery to secure a spot, otherwise it is first come first serve. To sign up, please email Gina Lane at GinaL@ccumc.net. We are not using the children's wing right now so families must use the outside entrance to the nursery to drop off their children to the nursery. The Nursery is for children age 0-2. These children do not have to be masked. As an added precaution, since Nursery age children are not masked, Nursery staff will do a temperature check of each child entering the nursery.
Let's Connect and Pray Together

You are loved.
You are missed.

I'd like to pray with you.
What do we gain by praying together?
A great deal- it reminds us of who we are and how we are here together to love one another and to lift one another up in the love of Jesus Christ.  Even if it is just 5 minutes-- it is worth it.  You are worth spending time with.  I care about you and I want to spend time with you.

In our Pre-Covid days- I'd see you in the Narthex, during coffee hour, or at our Wednesday Mid-week meal, and I could hear about how your life is going, and pray with you.  I miss being able to do that.

I'd like to Zoom/talk with you and pray with you and remind you that God loves you, so do I, so does your church.

here to learn how we can spend some time in prayer together.
During this time when we are physically distant from one another, we are joined to one another in prayer.
