Update from the Healthy Church Team
If you missed the church email Saturday with updates from the Bishop responding to both the updated CDC guidance and subsequent response from the governor

The Healthy Church Team (HCT)  met Monday, May 17, 2021, to discuss what is next for CCUMC as we begin to move forward relaunching, re-entering, and moving towards a post-Covid life.

Let us be clear that this pandemic is not over.
We believe it is important to continue to be vigilant, remain cautious, and do all we can to do no harm and protect the most vulnerable.

The Healthy Church Team arrived at the following decisions through consensus, prayer, and consideration of our context.

As of today, May 19, 2021, the current 7-day COVID-19 test positivity rate (PCR only) in Virginia Beach is at 4.6%.

Here is a helpful link where you can see how the PCR rate has been consistently going down.

Virginia Beach has administered 330,293 Vaccinations so far.  189,315 with at least one dose and 149,328 fully vaccinated. 33.2% of VB is fully vaccinated.

We were also thankful that this past Sunday, when Pastor Beth asked the in-person 9:45 am worship service how many adults were fully vaccinated, every adult hand raised in a worship service of 75 people.

Our intention is to create opportunities for all people to worship in the way they feel most comfortable and safe (online, indoor, outdoor).

Upon consensus of these decisions, we communicated with the Worship Team members to ensure that each person who gives so generously to make worship possible felt comfortable and in agreement with the HCT recommendations.

I am happy to share that the AV techs, musicians,  and worship leaders were all excited to offer in-person worship live and to stream these services live.

Beginning this Sunday, May 23, 2021 - Pentecost Sunday
 we will offer the following:

-Continued Traditional and Contemporary Online Services that will be available online live at 8:30 am and 9:45 am and posted to Facebook and then available on the CCUMC website for later viewing.

-8:30 am In-Person Live (not pre-recorded) Traditional Service.
Vaccinated persons may be unmasked and we ask all others to remain masked.

-9:45 am In-Person Live (not pre-recorded) Contemporary Service.
Vaccinated persons may be unmasked and we ask all others to remain masked.

-11:15 am In-Person Live Outdoors Service.
Vaccinated persons may be unmasked and we ask all others to remain masked.

-All may continue to wear face-coverings in any setting they choose to.
-Worship will continue to offer Health Screening Acknowledgment upon entry.
-Worship will continue to abide by social distancing.

What about singing?
-Fully vaccinated people may sing unmasked indoors and outdoors.
-All others are welcome to sing with a mask/ face covering on.

What Happens Now?
The Conference has asked churches to activate the Post-Covid Re-Entry Group (PRG) team (this is the team planned as the successor to the HCT).  This PRG team will review the newly released Technical Assistance Manual (TAM).  The PRG teams will continue to plan and execute safety measures for the church.   However, the scope of the PRG team will include more than safety measures, we will reflect, rethink, and reshape the best ways to effectively provide ministry in the Post-COVID era. We are thankful for the work of the Healthy Church Team (HCT) and are thankful to move forward with our new Post-Covid Re-Entry Group (PRG) to discern more ways to effectively reach disciples of Christ.

The next meeting of the Post-Covid Re-Entry Group is next Thursday, May 27, 2021, and each week, they will share updates about additional ministry, missions, and programming.

Please join me in thanking the members of the Health Church Team:
Rev. Beth Anderson
