Dear <<First Name>>,
Today is Good Friday.
Why is Good Friday, good?
On this day, Jesus died on the cross.  He gave his life for us.

Isaiah 53:5 says, "But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was  crushed for our iniquities; upon Him was the punishment that made us whole."

Today is called good because we are made whole by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
Christ died, and because of his sacrifice, we are freed from sin and death.
He took on all the sin of the world, so that we may be free.

How did Jesus do this?
Because of his great love for us.
Jesus loves you.
Do not forget this.
Do not let anyone tell you anything different.
Today is good because it is a day to know how much God loves you.

How did Jesus endure this pain?
Hebrews 12:2 says, "for the sake of the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God."

Today is good-- because Jesus knew the joy that awaited him.
What was that joy?
You.

You were that joy.
You.
You are the reason Jesus endured the cross.

Sometimes we hear this and we feel terrible.
We think-- "This is all my fault."
Jesus died on the cross not to punish you, but to love you and set you free.

Jesus died on the cross to tell us-- It is finished.
Sin, Death, and the power they hold over us.
It is done. The battle is won.
You are free.  You are forgiven. You are loved.
Today is a Good Friday, because of Jesus and His great love.

I hope to see you tonight for Good Friday Service in-person at 7 pm at church or watch online at 7 pm a Good Friday Service led by the Elizabeth River District.

Come tomorrow, Holy Saturday, to church to pray in the sanctuary or by walking the prayer labyrinth.

I look forward to celebrating our Risen Lord with you on Easter morning! Come Sunday morning and bring flowers for the flower cross! Take a picture with your family to celebrate the joy of Jesus Christ!

I love coming to the flower cross with my family and adding to it with flowers!  Here is a picture from Easter 2019 with my daughter Grace as she placed the first flowers on the cross.  Today, she is just about taller than I am!

Come and worship with us on Easter morning and invite your friends and neighbors!
Come to sunrise at 6: 30 am in front of the church by the crosses!
Join us inside the Family Life Center at 9:45 am! (This is a change from the sanctuary so that we may accommodate more people).
Bring your own chair and join us at 11:15 am outside for worship by the FLC parking lot!
All services will include Holy Communion.
The nursery is available for the 9:45 am and 11: 15 am worship services.

I pray that you know how very much God loves you!
And... your church loves you!

In God's Love,
Pastor Beth

The Apostle's Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth;

And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;
the third day he rose from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and sitteth at the right hand of God
the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick
and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic** church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

**universal

Last week we had 73 people worship with us in-person, and 521 people worshiped with us on Facebook Live! The church also received a total of $16,040.00 in giving both electronically and in person.

Thank you for joining us and for your continual support - see you on Sunday!

Missions Fundraiser
The time to vote is coming to a close! Voting ends Easter Sunday, April 4th, and the winner will be announced on Friday, April 9th. If you have not voted, click here for detailed instructions on how to vote. Please make sure to complete both portions of the voting process (filling out the form, then donating on Breeze).

On the First Sunday after Easter, I’ll paint the front door of my house (on Facebook Live) the color that received the most votes/dollars. The current front runner is Coral Bells!

My door may even become a conversational piece in my neighborhood and even open more doors/opportunities for me to share the love of Jesus with my neighbors!

Essential healthcare workers have given so very much, even sacrificing time with their families so that they can care for those most in need.

You may remember that last spring we shared a kindness parade with our neighbors at Sentara Princess Anne Hospital.

To continue to pray for and encourage them, let’s write a note of thanks and encouragement to each staff member at Sentara Princess Anne (SPA) starting with those who work on the COVID-19 related unit.

Knowing someone cares and is praying for you, makes a huge difference in our lives! We may not have the name of every person who works there, but perhaps we can write, “Dear SPA Staff”  so that they know that their neighbors down the street at Courthouse Community UMC love, appreciate, and thank God for them.

As your cards come into the office, we will deliver them to Sentara Princess Anne.

We will begin with the COVID-19 Unit and keep writing notes of thanks and encouragement until each person has been lifted up!

Thank you for your help in showing our neighbors we love them!
Glory Sightings
We want to know and share the good news of Jesus Christ! Glory Sightings are those small or unexpected places in our lives and churches where we see God working in noticeable ways. Some call them "God winks" or "shiny penny moments" - we call them Glory Sightings! How are you seeing God at work here at Courthouse Community UMC? Click the image below to share your Glory Sightings with us!
In-Person Sunday School
Nursery Open This Sunday!
As a reminder, the Nursery has been open since mid-January for the 9:45 service.  Due to social distancing guidelines there is currently a limit of 4 children at a time. Families can sign up ahead of time for the nursery to secure a spot, otherwise it is first come first serve. To sign up, please email Gina Lane at GinaL@ccumc.net. We are not using the children's wing right now so families must use the outside entrance to the nursery to drop off their children to the nursery. The Nursery is for children age 0-2. These children do not have to be masked. As an added precaution, since Nursery age children are not masked, Nursery staff will do a temperature check of each child entering the nursery.
During this time when we are physically distant from one another, we are joined to one another in prayer.

Click on the image above to open our current prayer list!

Give the gift of life! On Thursday, April 8, Courthouse Community UMC will host the American Red Cross for a Blood Drive.

If you are available to volunteer your time to check in donors, please reach out to Louise Midland to sign up!
