TRA2022 is just around the corner!

The Transport Research Arena (TRA), the largest European Research and Technology Conference on Transport and Mobility, is just around the corner! 

On Tuesday, 27 September, a TRA2022 Press Conference organised by Magellan Circle took place at the Brussels Press Club where 15 journalists had the opportunity to learn about TRA2022 programme and highlights of this year's edition as well as the history and legacy of the Conference. 

During the Portugal Mobi Summit 2022, on 28 September, a dedicated high-level discussion panel “Transport Research Arena Lisbon 2022 - The future of mobility in Portugal and in Europe" focused on the four themes of TRA2022.

TRA Press Conference

Kick-off of the Be@t project

The Be@t project aims to explore and encourage the innovative production and use of sustainable natural fibres and functional textiles composed by agricultural and industrial by-products and residues, as well as to deploy reuse and recycling solutions, eco-design and digital traceability tools and awareness-raising campaigns.

During September, the project partners reunited for two days in order to get to know the concept of the project, its main objectives and the role of each partner in the project.

 

European Inland Waterways with Nik Delmeire






In this episode we speak to Nik Delmeire, coordinator of the Inland Waterways Transport platform as well as project coordinator of the new Horizon Europe ReNEW project where Magellan is leading the communication.

We speak to Nik about shifting more freight transport to inland waterways and setting the sector on an irreversible path to zero-emissions and how the recent initiatives like Naiades III action plan are going to support this.

LIPOR’s actions on marine litter and waste management are presented in Brussels


Organised by LIPOR – Intermunicipal Waste Management Service of Porto Metropolitan Area with the support of Magellan Circle, the Waste2Resource Press Conference will take place at the Press Club Brussels Europe, on 
the 29th of September 2022, from 5:15 to 7:00 PM

This press conference aims to present LIPOR’s waste management actions and its response to the marine litter challenge through projects in different countries. It is aimed at stakeholders such as EU institutions, Business Associations, ENGOs and other potential partners in waste management, namely regarding marine litter.

TRA2022 Conference Highlights Webinar 


Organised by Magellan Circle, the "TRA2022 Conference Highlights" webinar took place on Monday, 26 September 2022.

With speakers from ANI, European Commission, LNEC and CCL, over 120 participants attended the online session to find out more about the Conference programme, from the plenaries sessions to the technical visits, the exhibitors floorplan and sponsors!

Future Exploration of the Waterborne Transport Sector


The closing event of the STEERER project will take place on 12 October at The Beacon in Antwerp. 🎉

Co-organised by Magellan, the event aims to propose and disseminate a comprehensive RD&I decarbonization strategy for the waterborne transport stakeholders, and will consist of a morning conference programme with interactive breakout sessions and technical demonstration visits in the afternoon to the local waterborne zero-emission initiatives.

BiLOG – Logistics and Maritime Forum 


BiLOG – Logistics & Maritime Forum, on 10th and 11th November, in Italy, will analyse both the regional and the European dimension, improving the knowledge about EU Transport Policies and related investments in maritime, ports and logistics fields, highlighting the need for a stronger cooperation to decarbonize transport.

The agenda of the event includes the main trends of the European logistics and maritime sector in terms of Sustainability, Energy Transition, Digitalisation and Resilience

The transition to a circular and digital economy


Promoted by APF (Portuguese Foundry Association) with the support of Magellan Circle, CTCV and CCENERGIA, a round of workshops took place on the 8th and 15th of September, at Católica Porto Business School, as part of a project for the qualification of the foundry sector in Portugal for the transition to a more circular and digital economy. 🇵🇹

The workshops promoted networking among the participants, discussing relevant topics for the sector, such as energy efficiency and industrial symbioses.

This action was co-financed by the ERDF through the Norte2020/PT2020. 🧩

Motorways of the Sea Forum 


Connecting EU (by Magellan Circle) is very pleased to announce the success of the Motorways of the Sea Forum, organized by Prof. Kurt Bodewig, European Coordinator for Motorways of the Sea, on 16th September 2022. After three years of digital events, this Forum was finally in presence in Brussels! 🌊

During the event was presented the Motorways of the Sea Detailed Implementation Plan 2022 together with focuses on investments, new funding opportunities, CEF’s call results for ports and shipping in 2021/22, and the ongoing work of DG MOVE.

The Power of Culture, EU Innovation Performance & Single Market


Ahead of UNESCO's World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development,  MONDIACULT 2022, experts have issued a new report entitled “Stormy Times. Nature and humans: Cultural courage for change”, which focuses on the important role of culture as a driver for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

The EC published the 2022 edition of the European Innovation Scoreboard, which reveals that the EU's innovation performance has grown by about 10% since 2015. Compared to 2021, innovation performance in 2022 has improved for 19 Member States and declined for eight.

Following the recent proposal on new rules for addressing Single Market future emergencies, the Commission showcased the availability of essential  existing tools to ensure the free movement of goods and services for  smooth functioning of the Single Market.

2022 CEF Transport Calls
 
The Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) for Transport programme makes €5.12 billion available for projects targeting new upgraded and improved European transport infrastructure.
The EU needs an efficient and interconnected multimodal transport system for both passengers and freight, so the funded projects under this call will help to increase the sustainability of the transport network, putting the EU on track to meet the European Green Deal objective of cutting transport emissions by 90% by 2050.
The call for proposals proposes to fund projects in 41 topics organised in five thematic areas: core network, secondary network, sustainable mobility, safe mobility and connected mobility.
The deadline for proposals is January 18, 2023.

DUT Call 2022
 
“How do cities really function?” and “What works, when attempting to improve cities?” are some questions that the first joint call of the DUT Partnership aims to answer.
The recently opened Driving Urban Transitions Call 2022, offers opportunities for transnational and transdisciplinary cooperation along and across the three DUT Transition PathwaysPositive Energy Districts (PED), the 15-Minute City (15mC) and Circular Urban Economies (CUE).
Supporting transnational research and innovation projects, the projects should address urban challenges to help cities transition towards a more sustainable and functioning economy. Each proposal must involve, at least, three partners from three countries and be eligible for funding from their respective national/regional Funding Agency. 
Submit your proposals until May 3, 2023.

New EU rules on gas storage


Underground gas storage supply 25-30% of the gas consumed during the ❄️ season.
The Gas Storage Regulation, adopted 27/6/22, will help ensure security of supply by requiring that 🇪🇺 countries have reached a minimum 80% gas storage level by 1 November 2022.
