The Commission has adopted two multiannual work programmes for the Digital Europe Programme in 2023-2024, outlining the objectives and specific topic areas that will receive a total of €1.284 billion in funding, out of which €553 million is available in 2023. The Main Work Programme (€909.5 million) aims to continue and evolve the activities that started in 2021-2022, thereby reinforcing EU critical digital capacities on the key areas of climate and environment protection technology, data, AI, cloud, cybersecurity, advanced digital skills, and deployment for the best use of these technologies (such as blockchain, interoperable digital public services solutions and reference framework in energy consumption). The other work programme focuses on cybersecurity (€375 million), aiming to enhance the EU collective resilience against cyber threats, to be implemented by the European Cybersecurity Competence Centre in support to the cyber security strategy and regulations. Net-Zero Industry Act, Consumer Protection, European Green Deal

On 16th March the European Commission proposed the
Net-Zero Industry Act to scale up manufacturing of clean technologies in the EU and make sure the Union is well-equipped for the clean-energy transition.
The Act will strengthen the resilience and competitiveness of net-zero technologies manufacturing in the EU and make our energy system more secure and sustainable. 🌱

The EC is proposing common criteria against greenwashing and misleading environmental claims. Consumers will have more clarity, stronger reassurance that when something is sold as green, it actually is green, and better quality information to choose environment-friendly products and services. Businesses will also benefit, as those that make a genuine effort to improve the environmental sustainability of their products will be more easily recognised and rewarded by consumers and able to boost their sales – rather than face unfair competition.

On March the 23rd the EC welcomed the political agreement reached between the European Parliament and the Council that increases the maritime transport sector's contribution to reaching the EU-wide target of reducing net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030, and to achieving climate neutrality in 2050. 🚢
