At the Root helps you imagine, generate, and actualize your ideas for social change.

May 2022

It is spring in Vermont and every day I am seeing new blossoms and vibrant bursts of color! All of the hidden and hushed work of the winter comes to fruition during this time of year.
At the Root has been quiet, but hard at work this winter. I am excited to share that we have new programming and a new website!

The new website contains the same information from its previous version and all of the events we have created in the past, but you'll be able to find our new programming much more easily!

At the Root is shifting our focus away from creating events as the main focus and will be directing energy towards supporting artists, creatives, and small business owners. With over 15 years of experience, it is a joy to share our accumulated knowledge and help you guide your work through coaching, consulting, workshops, education, and project management.

This summer, we will be returning to a menu of in-person art-making workshops. We are so ready to share space with you and to grow together as a community again! See below for what we already have scheduled.  Future events will be posted on the website as they are finalized.

I am excited to present this updated version of At the Root with you and to see where this next phase leads us, together.

All my best,

jen really helped me take the initial big steps forward with my art. With deep roots in the community, jen's knowledge of local resources is second to none. Along with being knowledgeable and having experience building her own business, she was so genuinely excited about my work, which really helped me believe in myself. To anyone looking to expand their art business or looking for local resources in the arts, talk to jen Berger! ... Kenzie Hines KenzieHinesPrintWorks

jen is excellent at asking questions to help you look at your project from a different angle. Her ability to engage in process-oriented dialogue has helped me uncover the true intention of my work and ways to put my plans into action.... Lydia Kern

jen has an incredible eye for both big picture themes and close-up details. She helped me envision, organize and believe in my work by asking thoughtful, nuanced, and direct questions and providing warm and genuine support for what I had created so far. jen understands the value of both logistics and emotions when it comes to pulling off a project across all spectrums....G Cenedella

When developing the inaugural Poetry Walk experience at Kieslich park jen helped the City ensure the community was being held by the process. Through jen's commitment to honesty, generative values were encouraged to emerge.  I knew I needed a teammate who both understood the fabric of the community and who also had extensive experience cultivating connections and projects within it.  Another key aspect of jen's contributions to the Poetry walk was her experience and perspective as an artist. This part of her experience and skills helped ensure that the standards and methods created by the steering committee encouraged poets and artists to contribute intuitively and equitably...Dan Cahill. Land Steward. City of Burlington

jen is an amazing networker and has many friends and colleagues in the community. When I was overwhelmed with the task of promoting a new music project I reached out to her for help and though she was unable to fit it into her schedule at the time she connected me to a colleague she thought might be a good match for what I needed... and it was perfect! ...Peg Tassey

jen brings a unique combination of valuable qualities to her work. She is creative & artistic, while also having great project management skills, such as good organizational and communication skills. I found her ability to troubleshoot unexpected challenges that arose within my project helpful and encouraging.  I especially appreciated her enthusiastic spirit which helped me during the more challenging tasks of my project....Marcie Hernandez
