1. Coming up on Sunday...
At the 10.30am service, Louise will be leading and preaching on the next in our series on Mark's Gospel, Mark 10:17-31, "Challenging Allegiance". Everyone's welcome to join us in the building or on Facebook Live.

Children's Church is on this Sunday. Children can be dropped off to the team in the main hall from 10.15am for loads of fun with games, songs, Bibles stories, crafts and more!

Everyone's invited to the first 🎉 Afternoon Celebration 🎉 this Sunday at 3.30pm. Please offer to Sarah Gebbie if you would like to help, or just come along on the day and join in 'Connecting Your Community to Christ'.

There will be no 6.15pm service this week.

Thank you to Lin Ryan for this week's flowers.
2. Conversations about LGBT issues
We are blessed that fellowship groups are a safe space for many to speak openly and so, in response to a need for the church to talk more about LGBT issues, the elders have invited George Ryan to visit each fellowship group this autumn to facilitate open, loving conversations about LGBT issues. These visits are not to teach or to direct the church to a new position; there is no underlying agenda to reach a single point of view. These visits are about breaking the silence and listening to one another.

If you are in a fellowship group, your group leader will let you know what date George is visiting, and will offer you with some material to read in advance of the discussion.

If you are not in a fellowship group, you are very welcome to take part too. Please sign up here by the end of September to join in a facilitated conversation, either by visiting an existing fellowship group you have a link with, or at a one-off get-together with George and others.

George has already facilitated this conversation for the elders and staff, and then for the fellowship group leaders, and we found that there is room for us to disagree with grace and still be one church. We pray you will find the same and enjoy this opportunity to share more together. If you have any concerns, please contact your elder or fellowship group leader, as appropriate.
3. Join the Church Membership
If you're planning to make West Kirby URC your spiritual home, we would love to invite you to explore becoming a member of the church. Please contact Tony or Liz Wilson (two of our elders) tonwil08@me.com / elizabethmwilson@btinternet.com to express your interest or visit https://urc.org.uk/your-faith/joining-the-urc/ to find out more.
4. "Give Love in a Box this Year"
If you would like to either contribute to, or make up your own Christmas Shoebox, to be given out by Teams4U in poor communities in Eastern Europe this Christmas, please pick up a leaflet and a flatpack box (or decorate your own) from the back of Church. There is also a large container to collect completed boxes or donations of single items (by end October, early November). These boxes are always very warmly received.
Any questions please contact Jill Jackson (07791177303)
5. Could you join the Car-Park team?
Thanks to Beryl for this photo of the car-park steward's view through the seasons
Many people appreciate being able to park in the school car-park during the Sunday morning service, and the school have kindly extended use of the car-park to cover the Family Celebration afternoons too.

As part of our security agreement with the school, we need a steward on duty, but at the moment the stewards team is only small. Could you join for the morning and/or afternoon service, potentially doing one Sunday in six on a rota-basis?

The team say this is an enjoyable role, being the first welcoming face that drivers see when they arrive for church, and being a face in the community too, greeting passers-by. Please let Tony Wilson know if you could help, or fill in a serving postcard. Thank you.
6. Thank You!
Liz Wilson wants to say a big thank you to everyone who supported the fundraiser for Ukraine last Saturday. It was an amazing success. Nearly 200 people came: a lovely mix of ages, locals and Ukrainians. Our garden was heaving and there was a lovely atmosphere. The amount and variety of cakes and bakes was incredible. People were extremely generous and in 3 hours £1300 was raised. This will all go to Ukraine and is likely to be used to buy much needed thermal clothing as the cold weather has already arrived.
7. Workshops at Mersey Synod Meeting
All welcome. If you have any questions, please talk to Louise.
8. Celebrate at 70s Night! Saturday 15 October
To celebrate 50 years since the formation of the United Reformed Church, Meols URC are holding a 70s night with live music and a hotpot supper on Saturday 15th October and everyone is warmly invited. Tickets are £10pp - please reserve yours by contacting George Ryan (georgehryan@sky.com)
9. Noticeboard
On Monday 26 September, the electrician will be coming to PAT test every electrical item in the church and halls. If you are responsible for any electrical items which are currently locked in cupboards etc, please leave them in the small hall on Sunday 25 September, or speak to Linda Wilson. Thank you.

Save the date for a church social on the evening of Friday 14 October.

Colin writes, "Jenny and I are making an application to join this Liverpool City Region scheme to get Solar panels and batteries installed (just batteries in our case). If anyone in the congregation is considering either, or both, it would be worth registering. There is no obligation. Here is the link: Group-buying for solar | Liverpool City Region (solartogether.co.uk)"

Many thanks for your financial gifts to support the life of the church, 'Connecting your Community to Christ'. Information about giving to West Kirby URC is available here.
