1. Coming up on Sunday...
At the 10.30am service, Lin Ryan will be leading and Louise  preaching on the next in our series 'Tested: Faith in the Struggle', exploring John 16:15-21.  Join us in the building or by watching on Facebook Live - everyone's welcome.

At the 6.15pm service, it's week 4 of 'Encouraged & Called' and Dan will be preaching on Jesus and the woman caught in adultery... Come along to find out more!

There will be a 6.15pm service as usual next Sunday (31st) then the usual summer break with no evening services in August. If you would like to host any social get-togethers on Sunday evenings instead, you are very welcome to send notices for the eMessenger to commsmanager@wkurc.org.uk. The evening service will be back on 4 September.

Thank you to Jill Jackson for this Sunday's flowers.
2. Children's Church!
This Sunday will be the last Children's Church before a summer break. From Sunday 31 July and through August, supervised children will be very welcome to use the creche room, where boxes of activities and board games for older children will be available on the windowsill, as well as all the usual toys for younger children. Children are also very welcome to bring along their own activities and enjoy sitting in the service with their families.

We would like to take this opportunity to say a HUGE thank you to the small but wonderful team who have enabled Children's Church to return after the lockdowns then grow and flourish over the past school year. The children have had a brilliant time - thank you all!
3. Holiday Club begins on Monday!
Please be praying for the Holiday Club children and the team - have a look at the Prayer Diary for prayer points for each day.

If you're volunteering at Holiday Club, please arrive by 8.30am. If you're not able to come at short notice, or delayed, please contact Dan or Kath - this really helps us to arrange the team in time for the children arriving. Thank you.

At the end of Holiday Club, on Friday 29 July, we will need to take down all the decorations and pack everything away. If you could lend a hand, please come to church from 12.15pm. Thank you.
4. Join a Fellowship Group - All Welcome!
Fellowship Groups are a big part of how we share in discipleship, prayer and pastoral care together at West Kirby URC, many of our members meeting in fortnightly small groups for Bible study, social activities, prayer times and more.

There are currently six different groups running - each with its own flavour, but all sharing common values of welcome, Word, worship and witness - and potentially two new groups starting in the autumn. The groups meet on a variety of days, in various locations, so hopefully there is one that fits for you.

If you would be interested in joining a group, please contact Kath - 07930137041 / commsmanager@wkurc.org.uk.  Those who are newer to West Kirby URC would be especially welcome - you don't have to be a member yet, come along and get to know us better.
5. Who are the Finance & Property Committee?
The Finance & Property Committee steward and care for the church building and finances, reporting quarterly to the Church Meeting. There have been some changes to the team in the past few months, so here are the current members:
  • Convenor - Ian Coleman
  • Secretary - Liz Matthews - welcome!
  • Treasurer - Jimmy Lindsay
  • Hall Bookings Secretary - Maxine Slade - welcome!
  • Health & Safety Officer - Wilf Mellors - welcome!
  • Eric Rose
  • Linda Wilson
  • Kath Hilborne
  • Ian Mills - welcome!
If you're new to West Kirby URC and would like to put names to faces, do ask a friend or member of the welcome team to introduce us when you're at church.

To help us to care for the building...

If ever you discover a serious problem in the church building which requires immediate attention (e.g. water leak, security issue), please contact the church Caretaker, Janet Hatton, as a matter of urgency. Alternatively, contact Ian Coleman or Kath Hilborne. Contact details are in the Membership Directory or on posters around the building.

If you notice a problem which is not urgent, please leave a message in the notebook which is on the noticeboard by the disabled toilet at the halls entrance.

And if you have any ideas or suggestions for discussion at future Finance & Property Committee meetings, please chat to Ian Coleman. Thank you.
6. All-Age Afternoon Services this Autumn
Thank you to everyone who contributed ideas at June's Church Meeting about how to re-introduce and resource a 'Something New' style service for all the family one Sunday afternoon each month from this autumn onwards. There was strong support for 'Connecting your Community to Christ' this way, and the idea of 'skipping' one of the other services on the Sunday of an afternoon service was seen as a good approach to help this new service be well-supported and avoid our volunteer teams being over-stretched.

More information will follow but for now please note that there will be special afternoon services on the last Sunday of the month this autumn, and therefore no evening service on 25 September, no morning service on 30 October, no evening service on 27 November.
7. 'Cool Places of Worship' Eco Event - 27 July

8. New Flame Radio App
"Flame CCR, the Christian and Community Radio station for Wirral and beyond, broadcasts via the internet 24-hours a day, with a wide range of Christian and community programmes  including music, interviews and Bible teaching. If you've not tried us yet, why not give us a go? We are pleased to announce that at Flame Radio we have just made listening even easier by launching our new radio app on Play Store (for Android devices) and App Store (for Apple devices)."
9. Noticeboard...
We are particularly short of people to serve on the sound desk, computer or behind the video camera (to stream online) at Sunday services. If you might consider learning any of these skills, please complete a serving postcard or contact Kath or Gordon - we would be delighted to hear from you!

We would also benefit from having a few more people on the car-park team - please let Tony Wilson know if you could help, or fill in a serving postcard. Thank you.

If you serve in a role in church-life that requires a DBS and you haven't yet responded to Dan or Kath with the contact details for your two character references, it would be helpful to hear from you as soon as possible.

Many thanks for your financial gifts to support the life of the church, 'Connecting your Community to Christ'. Information about giving to West Kirby URC is available here.

Look out for the e-Messenger coming to your inbox towards the end of each week. If you have a notice to include, please send it to commsmanager@wkurc.org.uk by 6pm Wednesday.
