1. Coming up on Sunday...
At the 10.30am service, we'll be continuing our new series, 'Tested: Faith in the Struggle' with Louise leading and preaching on 'Faith & Surrender'. Join us in the building or by watching on Facebook Live - all welcome!

At the 6.15pm service, it's week 2 of 'Encouraged & Called' and Karen Bowyer  will be leading and Simon Lakin preaching on David & Jonathan. Come along for worship, Word and prayer, refreshments available from 6pm.

Thank you to Jenn Merrin for this Sunday's flowers.

*** There are still plenty of ways you can get involved in serving at church. The most pressing needs at the moment are for leaders and helpers at Children's Church and people to learn how to operate the sound desk, projector or Facebook stream for services ***
2. Bake Sale after Sunday Morning's Service

Ishbel, Eryn and Carys will be running a bake sale, with help from mum Gill, Karen and Josie in aid of Guide Dogs. Bring your purse and enjoy a cake for a great cause!
3. Come and visit Children's Church!
Children's Church has seen some great developments over the past term, with lots more fun activities for the children, and lots more children coming regularly! If you would like to see what goes on at Children's Church, and perhaps consider joining the Children's Church team yourself, regularly or occasionally, you are warmly invited to visit Children's Church on Sunday 10 July or Sunday 17 July, from 10.15am. 'Visitor spaces' are limited for each Sunday, so please let Dan (dansach@hotmail.com) know in advance if you would like to visit. The children will be delighted to see you!
4. It's only 2 weeks until Holiday Club!
Offer to help on the sign-up sheet in church or by emailing dansach@hotmail.com
5. Forest Church on Sunday 10 July
6. Picnic in the Park!  Sunday 17 July
On Sunday 17 July, Churches Together in West Kirby are hosting a 'Picnic in the Park' from 12.30pm next to the play area in Ashton Park. There will be music from the Happiness Band, crafts and a  short informal act of worship. Just take along something to eat and something to sit on!
7. Visit The Enterprise Market - Monday 18 July
Our neighbours at West Kirby School write, "Join us for our Summer Enterprise Market! Monday 18th July, 10am - 12 noon. Pupil-made crafts, gifts and games. Refreshments available. Open to families, friends and local community. Please share the invitation!"
8. Wirral Foodbank - Summer Shopping List
Donations can be left in the marked bin in the church or in the boxes outside the homes of Tony & Liz W, Paul & Louise F, or Tim & Sarah S. Thank you!
9. Protecting you as you serve - references
As we've shared in previous eMessengers, alongside our fresh emphasis on serving, a new Volunteer Policy, mutual expectations paper and other documentation have been prepared and are available from Kath or Gordon for anyone who would like to read them. These documents help the church, as a charity, to comply with good practice and guide us in protecting one another.

One thing the church need to do going forward is to make sure that we have two brief character references on file for
  • Everyone who serves in a role that requires a DBS check, generally roles with children, young people or adults-at-risk.
  • Everyone who has been known to the church for less than 1 year and is serving in any voluntary role.
This is not so we can "check you out" but rather a compliment to be filed alongside your DBS to provide a record that you are a good and suitable person to serve with children, young people or adults-at-risk, or at West Kirby URC in general, especially if (and we hope never) a situation arose when that may be questioned. Keeping character references on file is all about protecting our wonderful team, as well as the church's work, now and in the future.

So - if you serve in a role that requires you to have a DBS, or you've been at West Kirby URC less than a year but already getting involved (thank you!!) please look out for an email from Dan (for youth and children's team) or Kath (for others) inviting you to send them back the email addresses of two people who could fill in a short form online for you. More details will be in the email, including a link to see the reference form for yourself if you wish.

Thank you for your understanding and support with this.
10. Noticeboard...
Gwyneth Brown, a long-standing member of West Kirby URC, died aged 94 on Easter morning of 2020, during the first lockdown. Her family are finally able to celebrate her life together with a Thanksgiving Service at West Kirby URC on Tuesday 19 July at 2pm. Everyone is warmly invited to attend.

Mike and Heather are delighted to have finally moved house. If you would like our new address, please get in touch with Mike (07704924290).

Janet, our Caretaker, will be giving all the kitchens a deep clean and tidy-up this summer so please take home any items of your own that have been left behind there by 17 July. Thank you!

Many thanks for your financial gifts to support the life of the church, 'Connecting your Community to Christ'. Information about giving to West Kirby URC is available here.

Look out for the e-Messenger coming to your inbox towards the end of each week. If you have a notice to include, please send it to commsmanager@wkurc.org.uk by 6pm Wednesday.
