Recent Event -
Breakfast Presentation & Services Showcase

The purpose of our first Network event for 2019, held at the Maroochy Surf Club on 21 March, was two-fold:  to take a closer look at the ALRC's review of the Family Law system, as well as providing a platform for local businesses and organisations operating within our sector to update us on their stories.

We were privileged and delighted to be the beneficiaries of presentations from barrister and mediator Ross McSwan and solicitor Samantha Bolton who considered the ALRC's review in a historical context, and highlighted some of the probable
developments that will affect our professional practice in the next five years, as well as those that are already in train relating to property reform, the handling of domestic violence matters and aspects of the Family Law system relating to children.  Thank you Ross and Sam for being so generous with your time and for your preparedness to share your insights.

The ALRC's report will be delivered to the Attorney-General this Sunday, 31 March, and we will follow the review outcomes with great interest.

Our thanks also to Finnigan Santoso Law, McCarthy Family Law, Act 4 Tomorrow Separation Specialists, 6S Coaching, Suncoast Community Legal Service, Assent Communications, UnitingCare and QSTARS for their support of the event.  The audience appreciated learning more about their services, and how they are able to contribute to collaborative practice, and our Sunshine Coast community more broadly.

Finally, a thank you to Karl Manning, one of our Steering Committee members, for his very capable MCing of the event.
