Jubilee,

I don't have to look far to see evidence for the claim from David Cameron's commentary Paul shared in his sermon yesterday, "God's grace has enemies. God's justice has a bounty on its head. God's peace is marked for attempted demolition."

I'm especially feeling the weight of these words as so many, both near and far, feel the weight of trauma, natural disasters, political turmoil, the passivity of waiting out illness or sitting in grief, the feeling of overwhelm, and the active grasping for hope or fleeing from harm.

I invite you to join me in praying yesterday's response song, O Healing River over the the overwhelming, the infuriating, the disappointing, and the devastating.

Praying for Grace, Justice, and Peace,
 Kelsey Luke

Prayer Focus:  Prayer for Afghanistan

God of safe passage,
open the way.

God of hospitality,
prepare rooms to receive.

God of protection,
envelop those in danger.

God of peace,
remove the seed and tools of violence.

God of tears,
hold us in your embrace.

Oh, Afghanistan! May peace flow down like cooling rain.

Written by Kirstin De Mello, Program and Communications Coordinator for MCC U.S. Washington Office.

This week we pray for...

Bonnie Allen appreciates the prayers for her mother, Linda, whose health has improved. She requests continued prayers for her father, Royce, who is dealing with back pain.

Dakota and the Arrington family as they grieve the loss of Dakota's grandfather, Herman Moody.

Joe and Regina Martinez as they recover from COVID-19.

Sherry Mast and her husband LeRoy as Sherry recovers from a stroke.

A Food Pantry Coordinator for Jubilee's food pantry and for God's provision in the meantime.

Peace, stability, and provision for the people of Afghanistan and Haiti.

Safety and provision for those affected by Tropical Storm Henri.

The Betancourts' neighbors, Anita and George Hall, tested positive for Covid this week. George passed away today. Please pray for Anita as she recovers and for the whole family and their friends as they grieve.

We give thanks for...

God's provision for the food pantry. Though the work of many volunteers, approximately 5,000 pounds of food is bagged and ready to be shared with our neighbors.

If you have any prayer requests you would like shared in the pastoral prayer time of this Sunday's worship service, please send them to Joel Diener or Kelsey Luke.

We feel it is important to acknowledge the unfortunate reality that COVID-19 cases are on the rise in our state and county. We are monitoring the situation along with Jubilee's Elders. Given recent recommendations from the MS Department of Health we recommend:
  • You consider getting the COVID-19 vaccine if you are eligible.
  • All congregants, even those who are vaccinated, over the age of 5 consider wearing a mask for Sunday services and other indoor church events.
Jubilee, please let us know if you test positive for COVID-19 after attending an in-person Sunday service or other church event.  To reiterate the policy established by the Elders at the beginning of the pandemic, if individuals from separate households test positive for COVID-19 after worshiping in person at Jubilee, this will constitute a Jubilee outbreak and we will take a two week pause worshiping only on Zoom during that time.

Please direct questions or concerns to Joel Diener or Kelsey Luke.

For anyone who does not feel safe worshiping in person, Sunday services will continue to be broadcast live on Zoom for the foreseeable future.

Do you have announcements to share with Jubilee?
Please call, text or email Kelsey Luke.

When I said, “My foot is slipping,”
your unfailing love, Lord, supported me.
When anxiety was great within me,
your consolation brought me joy.
