PharmDawgs Vaccinate!

PharmDawg students and faculty helped administer 450 vaccines this Saturday at University Cancer & Blood Center in Athens. Participating PharmDawgs included Nour Burjak (P3), Diana Dang (P2), Dillon Frazier (P4), Lili Hill (P3), Nuzat Momin (P2), Dr. Lori Duke, and Dr. Michelle McElhannon. CoP Alumni Dr. Tessa Hall '05 and Dr. Ben Holley '18 are both employees at the clinic. Great work, PharmDawg Vaccinators!

UGA CoP, Georgia College Partner for PharmD Candidates 

Undergraduate chemistry students at Georgia College and State University interested in a career in pharmacy now have a streamlined process for matriculation into the University of Georgia’s Doctor of Pharmacy program. Learn more about this unique partnership between GSCU and the CoP here.

UGA Colleges of Pharmacy, Engineering Partner on New Double-Dawg Degree Program 

University of Georgia students interested in a career in the biopharmaceutical industry can now earn a Bachelor of Science in Biochemical Engineering/Master of Science in Pharmacy dual degree, which will prepare them for a career as a biopharmaceutical engineer. Introducing a New Student Organization: BSPO

The Black Student Pharmacist Organization (BSPO) was created with the intention of providing a social support group for Black and African-American students within the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy. At last week's DSAC meeting, the organization was approved to begin their trial year. They have achieved recognition at the University level, and in the first three weeks of their presence on campus since January, they have gained over 40 paid members. 60th Anniversary of Desegregation 60 at 60 and Weekly Trivia

In honor of the 60th anniversary of desegregation at the University of Georgia, the College of Pharmacy is spotlighting 60 alumni, faculty, staff, students, and friends who have advocated for a more equitable and inclusive society – the College of Pharmacy 60 at 60. Culminating 60 at 60 will be the inaugural William Robie III Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Lecture & Award on February 25 at 6pm.

Virtual Tour Sneak Peek

Last week, a production crew visited the Athens campus to film 360-degree video scenes for a virtual tour of the CoP. Thanks to all the students, faculty, and staff who participated in this project, and a special shoutout to Dr. Shane Pruitt, Recruitment Specialist, for organizing this effort! We can't wait to see the final product!

Pharmaceutical Sciences Advisory Board Meeting

The Pharmaceutical Sciences Advisory Board met on Friday afternoon. College of Pharmacy attendees and presenters included Dean Kelly Smith, Dr. Michael Bartlett, Dr. Brian Cummings, Dr. Scott Pegan, Dr. Grace Gowda, and Dr. Singh Rekhi. View a list of the current board members here.

Dean Smith Presents at DSAC

At last Wednesday's DSAC Meeting, Dean Kelly Smith provided a special presentation about motivation and engagement. DSAC members were encouraged to explore different ways to keep their organization members engaged.


COVID Refresher Training Deadline Extended

The required training module, “COVID-19 Refresher Training for UGA Faculty and Staff” has been extended to February 19. Please note that for anyone who has not completed the training by the initial due date of January 31, will now have a “past due” message in the employee’s to-do list within the Professional Education Portal (PEP). It is imperative to have all faculty and staff complete this training by Friday, February 19.


Dr. Scott Pegan Published in Chemical Research in Toxicology

Dr. Scott Pegan
, Director of the Center for Drug Discovery and PBS Professor & Interim Associate Head, was published in Chemical Research in Toxicology with the article, "Structural and Biochemical Insights into the Inhibition of Human Acetylcholinesterase by GSeries Nerve Agents and Subsequent Reactivation by HI6."

ASHP: Pharmacy Students Embrace Opportunity to Play Crucial Role in Mass COVID-19 Immunization Efforts

UGA Rural Development Workshop

Drs. Devin Lavender and Ewan Cobran, Clinical Assistant Professors, are participating in UGA’s inaugural Rural Engagement Workshop for Academic Faculty. Designed to help build momentum for high quality, community-engaged research in rural Georgia communities, the five-series workshop will allow participants to gain a greater understanding of the state’s rural demographics and trends, obtain key information on developing sustained relationships with communities, and enhance their ability to engage in rural research. Learn more about the workshop here. (And a special shoutout to Dr. Henry Young on his featured image in this UGA press release!)

Promotion & Tenure Workshop and Office Hour

UGA is holding a Promotion and Tenure Workshop on February 22 from 10:30am-12:30pm. Register via PEP.

Time & Absence Changes

The process to submit time, approve time, and request absences will be changing soon as USG transitions to the new “Fluid” interface in OneUSG Connect with version 6.22 release on March 14. All job aids and interactive training guides will be updated in the Training Library before March 14.
