Remembering Dr. Jeffrey Anthony Kotzan

The CoP is sad to share the passing of a beloved member of the CoP family, Dr. Jeffrey Anthony KotzanDr. Kotzan (February 5, 1942 - September 7, 2021) passed away at his home in Sky Valley, Georgia, with his family and loved ones at his side.

"Jeff obtained a PhD in Pharmacy at Purdue University, where he met his wife, Lois, who was also in the Pharmacy program. Jeff taught as a professor of pharmacy at the University of Georgia from 1969 - 2005. Jeff loved to laugh, always had a twinkle in his eye, and never took himself too seriously. He was a gentle, loving man who was slow to anger and quick to forgive. He was patient and kind. He will be missed."

Arica Barfield, once again, exemplifies what it means to be a PharmDawg!

One of our Albany students was having a birthday, but in true fashion, Arica Barfield wanted to celebrate everyone’s birthday. So, she personally brought every Albany PharmDawg their very own homemade cookie and happy birthday balloon, including the two guest students.

It’s small gestures like this that make all the difference, especially during this stressful times – thank you, Arica, for always going above and beyond.  You make us PharmDawg Proud!

COLT - COVID-19 Information

Help Us Keep UGA Healthy!

Watch for Symptoms of COVID-19.  People with COVID-19 have had a wide range of symptoms reported – ranging from mild symptoms to severe illness. Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus.  If you feel sick stay home.  Contact your supervisor or instructors to discuss arrangements.

Remember, please reference the College of Pharmacy Decision Trees for guidance if you test positive for COVID-19, have symptoms or have been exposed – there is a Decision tree for each of the following:

DawgCheck

Remember, if you test positive, you are REQUIRED to report the positive test in DawgCheck.  Additionally, DawgCheck has a symptom checking tool to help individuals check their symptoms and provide guidance to support their health.  Use of this online reporting tool is still highly encouraged as it enables individuals to determine whether they should isolate or quarantine.

COVID-19 Testing

UGA will continue to offer free asymptomatic testing for COVID-19 to all members of the UGA community at the University Health Center. Based on CDC and DPH guidance, any individual, vaccinated or not, should get tested if they have had close contact with someone with COVID-19 within 3 to 5 days of that contact. Appointments for asymptomatic testing in Athens can be booked via the Vet View scheduling process. If you are experiencing symptoms, you should schedule an appointment with your provider.  Visit the following sites for more information on finding a testing location in your area.

Stay Safe!

In addition to getting vaccinated, we encourage everyone—whether vaccinated or not—to wear a face covering while inside campus facilities.  Wearing your mask and following safe hygiene practices will help protect our fellow PharmDawgs in the spread of COVID-19.
