Savannah, Augusta Celebrate Friendsgiving

If you attended either the Savannah or Augusta “Friendsgiving” events in the last week, your bellies are still full! Faculty, staff, and students celebrated one another in Savannah on Wednesday, November 17, while Augusta held their annual potluck festivities on Monday, November 22.  According to Katie Schoen, a P3 from Leesburg, GA, who is on the Savannah campus, “We had a wonderful time!” The highlight from Augusta was the variety of tasty dishes, many of which had an international flavor. View a full photo album from Augusta here. Sharing food and fellowship with PharmDawg Family members made for thankful celebrations! Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

CAP Year of Service

The year of service projects comes to an end for the CAP Department on the Athens, GA campus. Deborah Martinez spearheaded the monthly service projects, which was instituted due to her desire to improve the wellbeing of the Athens community. Athens has a poverty rate of 29% (one out of three residents of Athens Clarke County lives in poverty) and is one of the poorest counties in Georgia.

Highlights of the projects included:
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service – Members of CAP assembled 50 hygiene bags and distributed them, on foot, throughout the Athens community.
  • Collected and donated over 220lbs of food for the UGA Food Pantry.
  • Collected and donated approximately 2000 diapers and 12 packs of baby wipes for the Athens Area Diaper Bank.
  • TurkeyPalooza is the seasonal event of the Campus Kitchen at UGA and the Athens Community Council on Aging that provides holiday groceries and meals to older adult families and homebound individuals.
Thank you to each of the CAP faculty and staff members who donated throughout the year. A special thank you to Dr. Tackett as he participated in every service project and to Dr. Huang who was incredibly generous with his donations.
