Mental Health Town Hall This Thursday, Giving Day Friday

This Thursday at 6pm, the College of Pharmacy will host a virtual town hall to discuss mental health awareness. This will be the kickoff for the 2020 College of Pharmacy Giving Day, this Friday, September 25. All proceeds this year will benefit mental health initiatives at the College, such as – faculty, staff, and students completing the Mental Health First Aid Training; grief and bereavement sessions; Mindfulness Mondays meditation activities; individual stress/anxiety meetings; and anxiety and stress management closed group sessions.

The panel will feature the College of Pharmacy’s own Dr. Linda Logan '85, Dr. Vivia Hill-Silcott '15, Dr. Daniel Chastain, Dr. Misha Thomason Watts, and Dr. Andrew Darley '12; P4 Justin Petway; P3 and President of the UGA Chapter of the College of Psychiatric & Neurologic Pharmacists (CPNP) Gabrielle Mendoza; and PharmDawg alumna Lindsay McCoy '13, of Village Drug Shop at Advantage Behavioral Health Systems. The town hall will be moderated by Dean Kelly Smith '92 & '93.

Dr. Anthony Hawkins & Dean Kelly Smith in ASHP Foundation Impact Report

The ASHP Foundation released their 2019-2020 Impact Report, in which both Dr. Anthony Hawkins and Dean Kelly Smith were highlighted.

Dr. Hawkins serves on the ASHP Foundation Research Advisory Council, established in 2019. In this position, he plays a key role in shaping a national research agenda. Dean Smith serves as Vice Chair of the Foundation, and was highlighted in the publication as an ASHP Foundation donor.
GPhA Virtual Convention

The CoP was well represented throughout the Georgia Pharmacy Association Virtual Convention, held September 10-12. Huge congratulations go to Wes Chapman '88 on becoming GPhA President and receiving the McKesson Leadership, NCPA Leadership, and Smith Drug Kaleidoscope Awards. He was in good company as the gavel was passed by Outgoing President, Chris Thurmond '01, and will be followed by President-Elect, Mahlon Davidson '82.

Need some guidance on where to get a COVID-19 test? We've compiled some resources below to help you know where to go. Note that testing at Department of Public Health (DPH) testing sites is provided at no cost. Make sure to call ahead for appointments.

Athens:

UGA is performing surveillance testing for asymptomatic students, faculty and staff at Legion Field. Schedule a time for a surveillance test here.

Students who are showing symptoms should seek care from the University Health Center. Please do not walk in. Make an appointment via telehealth or in person by calling 706-542-1162 or your primary care team’s number.

Employees who are showing symptoms should seek care and testing from a healthcare provider and may be required to self-quarantine. A list of Athens testing options can be found here.

Dr. Tim Brown named to ASHP Section of Pharmacy Educators' Executive Committee

Dr. Tim Brown, Director of Interprofessional Education, has been appointed to serve on the inaugural ASHP Section of Pharmacy Educators’ Executive Committee for the 2020-2021 term. ASHP received over 100 nominations from across the country and the selection process was rigorous. Congratulations, Dr. Brown!
