Welcome, Lynn Smith!

The faculty and staff of the Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences Department is pleased to welcome Lynn Smith as the new Business Manager, effective today.  Employed at UGA for 3.5 years, Lynn comes to the College of Pharmacy from the Georgia Center for Continuing Education, where she was the Senior Accountant.  Previously, she served as an accountant for University Housing.  Lynn is the mother of three teenage boys, and they live in Oconee County.   Lynn’s office will be located in Pharmacy South, Room 434 (the office previously occupied by Joy Wilson).  Her office phone number is 706-542-7410, and her email address is

Chu Lectureship Selected for UGA Signature Lecture Series

This year’s Chu Lectureship has been selected to be a part to the prestigious UGA Signature Lecture Series!  Scheduled for April 14 at 11 am virtually, this year’s Chu Lectureship features Dr. Emma Parmee, Global Head of Discovery Sciences, Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson and Johnson, who will address "New Directions in Chemistry: Expanding Exploration of Chemical Space."

The Signature Lecture Series features speakers noted for their broad, multidisciplinary appeal and compelling bodies of work. Many of the lectures are supported by endowments, while others honor notable figures and milestones in the University's history. Signature Lectures are free and open to the public. 60th Anniversary of Desegregation 60 at 60 and Weekly Trivia

In honor of the 60th anniversary of desegregation at the University of Georgia, the College of Pharmacy is spotlighting 60 alumni, faculty, staff, students, and friends who have advocated for a more equitable and inclusive society – the College of Pharmacy 60 at 60. Culminating 60 at 60 will be the inaugural William Robie III Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Lecture & Award on February 25 at 6pm.

Statewide Tornado Drill/UGAAlert Test – February 3

A Statewide Tornado Warning Drill and UGAAlert test is scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, February 3 at approximately 9:00am. More information can be found here.

UGA LGBT Resource Center 2021 Connect Conference

The UGA LGBT Resource Center invites you to attend the 2021 Connect Conference on Saturday, February 27th from 10am-5pm. The Connect Conference is a single-day conference centered on the LGBT community, creating solidarity, and community-building. This year’s conference will include options for both in-person and online attendance, and is free to UGA students, staff, and faculty. CoP Interprofessional Patient Simulation Experience

The College of Pharmacy’s first interprofessional patient simulation experience, held Thursday, January 21, was deemed an overwhelming success by participating faculty and students. Read more about this joint teaching venture.

AU Medical Center Pharmacy Conference Room Dedication

Last week, the Augusta University Medical Center Pharmacy held a dedication ceremony for its new conference room, named after the Pharmacy's longtime director, Mary Wallace Johnson. Pictured in the group shot from left to right are Director of Inpatient Pharmacy Services Richard Burrell, former Director of Pharmacy Mary Wallace Johnson, and CoP Clinical Professor Dr. Rusty May. The College of Pharmacy and AU logos are both prominently displayed in the new space.

Dr. Jayawardhana Publishes, Serves on NIH Study Section

Dr. Jayani Jayawardhana
, CAP Associate Professor, was recently published in Health Services Research with “The Associations of Medical Marijuana Policies with Opioid-related Health Care Utilization.” She was also invited to serve on a NIH study section titled “Mechanism for Time-Sensitive Drug Abuse Research” in December 2020.

CoP Marketing & Communications Update

CoP’s Office and Marketing and Communications aspires to be a leading partner in the college’s pursuit of excellence. Current staff members Mickey Montevideo, Senior Director, and Lillian Ballance, Coordinator, work in tandem with CoP colleagues to positively brand the College of Pharmacy. Recently, Jeanne Prine, who served the college for almost 30 years, the last 25 as the webmaster, retired. Lillian is assuming maintenance of the website at this time. If you have further questions about the college’s website and marketing/communications efforts, please contact Mickey or Lillian.

Promotion & Tenure Workshop and Office Hour

UGA is holding a Promotion and Tenure Workshop on February 22 from 10:30am-12:30pm. Register via PEP.
