PharmD Residency Showcase

Almost 200 final-year Pharm.D. candidates in Georgia, including over 80 of our 4th year PharmDawgs, attended the virtual Mercer/PCOM/South/UGA Residency Showcase on Friday, October 9th. Eighty-five postgraduate programs from across the Southeast interacted with student attendees during virtual meetings which occurred over the course of the day. This was the largest program attendance at this event in its over 10-year history. In total, over 80 hours of sessions took place during the day. Kudos to Dr. Lindsey Welch for her role in co-coordinating this opportunity for students. Special acknowledgments to Katie Smith for the technical assistance she provided prior to the event. Pictured are several PharmDawg selfies taken the day of the event.

College of Pharmacy in the UGA Headlines

The CoP made UGA headlines for the #flUGA campaign. Started in 2013 by the College of Pharmacy and the UHC pharmacy, the mobile clinic program – known as flUGA – makes flu vaccinations accessible and affordable on UGA’s campus and provides a learning opportunity for second- and third-year student pharmacists. The flUGA mobile clinic’s administered 20% more flu vaccinations in 2019 and hopes to increase this number in 2020.

Sign Up for Surveillance Testing

Be Georgia Strong. Dawg Strong. PharmDawg Strong... and help UGA flatten the curve! It’s important that we continue to monitor asymptomatic spread through surveillance testing. There are 500 time slots a day, and we need participation from as many of you as possible.
If you haven’t had a positive test result in the past 90 days, you can get retested about every three weeks, so be sure to sign up to test again if it has been awhile.
Visit DawgCheck to schedule an appointment for asymptomatic testing at Legion Field. With our increased capacity, we are often able to accommodate same day appointments. In cases where there is same-day availability, Legion Field staff will accept walk-up appointments. Individuals will need to register onsite, but the likelihood is that they will be accommodated.
Enjoy free Starbucks coffee and tea in line, and receive free items as a thank you for participating, including coupons and specially branded masks and t-shirts! Sign up via DawgCheck. #PharmDawgStrong

Major Window Replacement Project in Wilson To Get Underway

Exterior windows on the second and third floors on the east and south sides of the R.C. Wilson Pharmacy Building will be replaced late this semester.  This is the next step in the College’s efforts to improve and enhance the safety of existing facilities. If your office and/or work area is affected by this installation project, you should have received notification late last week.
In summary, working with UGA’s Facilities and Maintenance Division, along with multiple vendors, CoP will implement this project in several phases.
  • Phase I –  Already underway and involves a pilot installation on the 2nd floor of the RC Wilson Building (in the common area entry way adjacent to the side entrance to CAP) This project should be completed by 10/16.
  • Phase II – Schedule for 10/28 – 11/3. Interior prep work to include asbestos abatement for window caulking, along with movement of furniture and IT equipment. All locations affected will be sanitized after this prep work.
  • Phase III –  Scheduled to start 11/23.  Window installation is tentatively scheduled to start 11/23 and will include both interior and exterior work. A more detailed plan related to Phase III will be provided soon.
For information regarding specific facility-related needs, contact Brad Brown.
