News & Announcements

September is National Preparedness Month

With this month being National Preparedness Month, the Office of Security and Emergency Preparedness sent out a newsletter with tips to remain prepared for any and all emergencies!

Listed below are some of their top tips for staying prepared:

  • Step 1: Be Informed
    • Download the UGA Safe app. This app provides you with a quick how to respond to emergencies guide, allows you to text the UGA Police, and share your location in an emergency.
    • Review your information in the UGA Alert emergency notification system.
    • Bookmark the UGA Emergency website.
    • Sign up for emergency alerts from your local county/city. For Athens-Clarke County, you can sign up under the alert center on the ACC website
    • Have a weather app on your phone that will alert you to severe weather in your area including tornado watches/warnings.
  • Step 2: Get a Kit
    • With your next online order or visit to a big box store, pick up an extra first aid kit. Then add a few items to personalize it for you including spare chargers for your electronics, some snacks and water, and pet supplies if needed. Or check out our full list of items to include in an emergency kit for your home/office, car, and for your pets.
  • Step 3: Make a Plan
    • While you are making plans with your friends and family for game days, talk about how you will you reach each other in an emergency. Will you text each other in a group, or reach out via social media? Or, do you have a designated location to meet at?
    • Be sure to know several different ways to exit various buildings that you frequent on campus. You never know when the exit that you typically use may be blocked. It only takes a few minutes to check out another way to exit, and you will be glad you did if you ever need to use it during an emergency.

Safe Driving Reminders from the University

As campus becomes more busy, here are several reminders from the University on how to stay safe while traveling to, from, and on campus.

  • Remember to give yourself extra time to travel across campus and remove distractions (phones, headphones, etc.); please keep your head up and Watch for Dawgs!
  • Consider utilizing transit options like the UGA buses and ACC transit to decrease campus congestion during class changes and peak travel times.
  •  Track UGA buses in real time on the UGA app

UGA Pharmacy Welcomes New Employees
Anna Fallon, Yini Liao, and Xiaoyun Wang

Anna Fallon, PhD joins us as an Adjunct Professor in the IBRS program, where she will teach courses on the global regulation of medical devices. "I am excited to be educating the future leaders in the Medical Device Regulatory field to ensure that they are successful in their careers and that they always put the patient first," Fallon said. Fallon currently lives with her husband, Tom, and has four kids – one of which currently attends UGA. In her free time, she enjoys running, reading, going to Braves games, and watching her kids play sports.

Her email is anna.fallon@uga.edu, and her phone number is 678-662-8958.

Yini Liao, PhD started as a Volunteer Research Assistant on the Augusta campus last fall but was promoted to Research Assistant with Dr. Priya Narayanan in May. In her new position, she is responsible for lab ordering and bookkeeping, animal work, conducting research experiments, generating data, and collaborative work. Liao currently resides in Evans, right outside of Augusta. Liao has a husband and three sons, and in her free time, she enjoys photography, cooking and her Costco membership.

Her email is Yini.liao@uga.edu, and her phone number is 706-721-8441. She is located in Augusta's HM Building, room C199.

A native of China, Xiaoyun Wang, PhD, who is a Research Assistant with Dr. Somanath Shenoy, says that the excellent research environment brought her to UGA.  She received her Ph.D. in the Chinese Academy of Sciences and did her postdoctoral training at Brigham and Women's Hospital/Harvard Medical School.  In her position she will work on an NIH-funded project and provide CET graduate students with support and guidance in their research.  Currently, she is a member of the American Thoracic Society.

Her email is xiaoyunwang@uga.edu, and her phone number is 706-721-6491. She is located in Augusta’s HM Building, Room 111.

**In our previous issue, we mistakenly said Xiaoyun is a Research Assistant with Dr. Priya Narayanan, when she actually is an assistant with Dr. Somanath Shenoy. We regret and apologize for this error.
