A Message from Bethany’s CEO
Deborah Herrboldt, CEO/Administrator
“There’s just something special about Bethany”. This is a phrase that I often hear from residents, family members and employees when they share about their experience at one of our facilities. So, what is it that makes Bethany special? It is our Bethany spirit. At the heart of this is our mission to care for the body and the spirit and our vision to create a welcoming home. The result is the creation of an atmosphere where the fruit of the spirit abounds resulting in the special feeling where our work is more than a job and where all become members of our Bethany family.
The Bethany spirit is based on our belief in the fruit of the spirit: “But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, gentleness, and self-control.” Galatians 5:22-23. We encourage the qualities of the fruit in the spirit in our employees. We are blessed by the many employees who demonstrate these qualities through their call to care at Bethany.
It was humbling to witness the rise of the Bethany spirit in many of our employees as they encountered the various challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Their steadfast commitment to ensuring the safety of our residents and to each other was and continues to be impressive. Long days and frequently changing regulatory priorities were fatiguing but not enough for Bethany team members to lose faith or persistence. Prayer, support, and encouragement enabled our Bethany team to carry on with even greater love and commitment to our residents. More than ever, we felt a family bond especially to our residents who were unable to receive visits from their loved ones for a long period of time. It was a happy day when the vaccine was made available to our residents and employees which allowed us to recently begin receiving visitors again.

A Gift from the Sheldon F. Reese Foundation
Bethany recently received a generous gift of $10,000 from The Sheldon F. Reese Foundation to help pay for a new air filter system at Bethany Home Sioux Falls. This has been a challenging year, and our staff in Sioux Falls and Brandon have been truly a blessing. Spirit Awards were given in five categories for Bethany team members who went above and beyond their duties and exemplified the qualities of the fruit of the spirit. We want to thank A&B Business Solutions and Michelle and Thomas Olsen (in Memory of Beverly & Robert Sorensen) for their sponsorships for the Spirit Awards this year.
Please let Linda Jensen, Foundation Director, know if you would like to volunteer (with Covid-19 protocols in place) or if you’d like to give a donation or a legacy gift to the Bethany Foundation. Linda Jensen, Foundation Director
