Already heading into September 🍂

Here's the latest and greatest for Ms. Grennier's class!

  • Clever with Lexia, AR, etc. should be available by Monday.
  • MAP Testing Dates - Elementary between 9/21 & 10/8 (MORE DETAILS TO COME)
  • Elementary School PE - If an Elementary School family wants to create their own PE plan, they can. The family has to present the plan to the Supervising Teacher and it must include 200 minutes of PE every 10 days (state law). The family will submit minutes to the Supervising Teacher based on an hourly system showing that they really are completing the minutes.
🌰Fall NWEA MAP testing is essential to establish a baseline of student learning for monitoring student growth over the school year.  In the PVUSD Reopening plan, the need for assessment towards the start of the school year was established to determine the impact of learning loss due to COVID-19 Spring school closure and to identify learning gaps and strengths of each student. At the elementary level, our youngest learners are still practicing their tech skills and learning how to take tests in a remote setting.  In the best interest of our elementary students, the Fall NWEA MAP testing window for elementary will be pushed out to a later date.

🌰WHAT THIS MEANS: We have to improve our student's Tech skills to be able to complete the MAP testing on their own. And that means that September is going to be a big Tech learning month, so buckle up because we've got a lot of work to do.

🌰Flipgrid for Littles: I have created a series of lessons for you to do with your child so that they can learn to make videos using Flipgrid. It's easy and fun, but most of all it will give your child a voice in this class that other kids and myself can hear. Let's hear their voices! While I have directions on our class website ClassroomStream.com, I want to do a live MEET session to walk all my students through how Flipgrid works, answer questions, and get them excited. MONDAY SEPT. 1st 11-12 on computers only - Meeting ID
meet.google.com/jpg-zxad-ekz If you miss this live session, then just follow directions on the website... BUT don't miss the live session. 🐸

🌰SUPER IMPORTANT I must remind you that we must meet state mandates on the amount of time students must spend doing their curriculum. As a teacher, trust me I know how hard it is to keep them motivated to do the work. I've got your back parents! If you need me to talk with your child and explain why they need to focus and do the lessons, just drop me an email. We are in this together and together we can make a positive difference in your child's education. I am seeing some students soaring, but I'm also seeing some struggling. Plan on having some discussions about all of this during your PLP meeting with me this week.

Story Share - I got a message from one of my former principals this week. She wanted me to know that one of my former students, that I taught as a third-grader, was now leading his entire fifth-grade class's lesson on Technology. She gave me a pat on the back for it because I had taught him a lot of Tech skills. I know I can do the same for your child as well, but in the Virtual Academy, it takes a strong partnership between the parents and the Supervisory Teacher. So, together let's keep the focus, encourage every step, highlight the successes, and reach out for help when needed. We've got this!

👍See you inside our Virtual Academy: virtualacademy.pvusd.net

Remember to breathe,
Ms. Grennier
