Joe Speidel is a representative from University Relations.  Joe is the Director of Local Government and Community Relations within the unit.  Joe served on Staff Council over 15 years ago, seeing and been part of many changes since that time.  As Joe has stated, "Respect for others and their perspective has been a goal throughout my career, beginning with my work as a mental health counselor and then at UVM, as has been a value of fairness, ethical behavior and responsibility for my interactions with other people."

Staff Council Recognition and Retention Proposal - Jon Reisenweaver

In March 2022, I formed the Staff Council Ad Hoc Committee for Recognition and Retention whose charge was to research peer institutions and collaborate with them to propose innovative ideas and thoughtful ways to help with staff recognition and 
retention here at UVM. While this work continues with senior UVM leadership, we will keep you updated on any progress.

This is a reprisal of his very popular summer tree walk in case you missed the one in June or would like to see the campus in fall color. The Community Engagement Committee of Staff Council will be doing a Staff Book Club again this year! Please vote by Friday, October 14. We will email everyone the week of October 17 with the selection. Discussions will happen at noon on Friday, November 11 (first half of book) and noon on Monday, December 12 (second half of book). Discussions may be on Teams or in person, TBD. Hope you can join!  Click here to register and vote on a selection.

The University of Vermont is committed to the health and safety of our employees. The flu shot is an integral part of keeping you, your colleagues, and your community well. In October and November, UVM will host several on-campus flu shot clinics for UVM employees. Clinics will be administered by professionals from UVM Medical Center and registration is required, click here.

Enjoy an evening of this FREE SCREENING October 6th, 7pm - 8:30pm at the Main Street Landing Film House full of illuminating and convention-breaking films, preceded by a selection of trailers from the 2022 Vermont International Film Festival!

Featuring rarely-seen silent films about feminist protest, anarchic slapstick mayhem, and evocative gender play. UVM Catamount Educational Farm Apple and Vegetable Sales begin September 2 at the UVM Horticulture  Research and Education Center, 65 Green Mountain Drive, South Burlington, VT and will continue every Friday through at least November 8 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Weekly updates on apple varieties available will be found at our Facebook page.
 
Interdepartment apple orders should be submitted at: https://go.uvm.edu/appleorder. Please post them at least one week in advance.
 
Directions to the farm from campus:
The HRC is located behind GE Healthcare (former IDX) and the Heritage car dealerships off Shelburne Road in South Burlington. From Campus Follow Spear Street South to Swift Street, take a right at the light and follow Swift St to the end. Turn left on US Route 7 and travel 1.5 miles south. Turn left at the traffic light onto IDX Drive. Travel .3 miles on IDX Drive and turn left onto the Horticultural Research Center access road.

Community Resources
The Junior League of Champlain Valley Diaper Bank in Vermont is providing free diapers to parents in the UVM community.

If you are a new parent, have an infant or toddler and would like support in minimizing the cost of diapers, please send the size and quantity you need to graduatestudentparents@uvm.edu.  
Diapers will be available for pickup from September 9th, 2022.

Vermont Housing Finance Agency
Vermont Housing Finance Agency has launched its Homeowner Assistance Program, which offers grants for missed payments on mortgages, utilities (water/sewer,
electricity, home heating), property taxes, and homeowner's or condominium association fees. Vermont homeowners can apply here: vermonthap.vhfa.org. They have assistance for applicants available through their hotline at (833) 221-4208, including housing counseling and translation assistance through local agencies. 
The Champlain Housing Trust announced a suite of initiatives and financing options to help Black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC) become homeowners through its signature shared equity program.  Click to learn more.
