Dangerous Heat Wave Out West

A dangerous and sweltering heat wave will consume much of the Western U.S., especially California, today through the upcoming Labor Day weekend. Widespread excessive heat warnings and watches along with heat advisories are in effect at the moment and likely linger for the next several days. Read the advisory here.
Here are some tips to Keep Your Cool in Hot Weather:

  • Limit your outdoor activity, especially midday when the sun is hottest.
  • Pace your activity. Start activities slowly and pick up the pace gradually.
  • Drink more water than usual and don’t wait until you’re thirsty to drink more. Muscle cramping may be an early sign of heat-related illness.
  • Wear loose, lightweight, light-colored clothing
Here are some tips to Keep Your Home Cool in Hot Weather:

1. Keep your blinds closed.

2. Be smart about your doors.

3. Set your ceiling fans to rotate counter-clockwise.

4. Focus on the temperature in your body, not the house.

5. Turn on your bathroom fans.

6. Let the night air in.

7. Start grilling.
