Spirometry survey – revised deadline of 22 April

Following the publication of ‘Spirometry in General Practice – a Leeds Position’ in the briefing on 24 March, the CCG, in agreement with the LMC, issued a survey to practices to determine their capacity and competency to restart diagnostic spirometry. Unfortunately, the response rate has been exceptionally low. This means we have inadequate information on which to develop support for  training needs or to explore the potential of securing additional capacity to address the backlog.

Whilst we appreciate how busy practices are,  we are aware that, for many of you, developing solutions to enable high quality spirometry provision is a top priority. Therefore, can we please ask all practices to complete the survey by a revised deadline of 22 April.

Please fill out the survey here.

Please see here for ‘Spirometry in General Practice – a Leeds Position’.

West Yorkshire GP digital and online services stakeholder workshops

A number of different platforms are in use across West Yorkshire providing online and video consultations, SMS messaging, digital questionnaires, two-way communication and health advice. West Yorkshire ICS aims to procure a single solution for West Yorkshire. The new platform should start on 1 April 2023.

As part of the procurement process, the WY Digital Team is running a number of stakeholder engagement workshops. The first event will be held via MS Teams on Thursday 28 April, 1pm-3pm.

This will help any future platform have the functionality that practices require, while meeting GMS/PMS regulations which came in to effect in October 2021.

If any clinicians or PCN representatives are interested in participating, please email lindsey.bell@nhs.net for an invitation.

Greener Practice Leeds and launch of the Greener Practice Scheme

Dr Sally Franks and Dr Natasha Gordon are Co-Chairs of Greener Practice Leeds: https://www.greenerpractice.co.uk/.

A recent BMJ article highlights why we cannot delay taking action. The positive news is that taking action on climate change can promote positive health changes for our patients and staff. The group has met twice to discuss how we can support each other to take action. Our next meeting (virtual) will be on Wednesday 18 May at 7.30pm.

The focus will be on the Greener Practice asthma toolkit and inhaler prescribing. There will be a guest speaker, Dr Katherine Hickman, who is Respiratory Lead for West Yorkshire and Harrogate Health and Care Partnership.

Please email n.gordon@nhs.net if you would like to join the group.

The CCG has worked with Greener Practice Leeds to designa practice-based scheme which  acts as a commitment to look at sustainability and planetary health  and help contribute to any costs practices might have in making greener choices. Please see the scheme for further details.

Learning and development

In it together: Always striving to improve health and care - May 10

The annual conference for nursing and AHP colleagues working across primary and community care focuses on integration. It is an opportunity to  network, work together  and think about ‘the art of the possible’ around service improvement and redesign.

Speakers will present local, ICS, regional and national pictures of integration. Leeds will showcase examples of excellence and all delegates will be encouraged to think about areas where they can make a difference. To demonstrate how extensive and experienced our workforce is, all delegates are invited to bring a photograph of themselves and to write a few words about their career highlights. These will be shared via Twitter and also be celebrated on Nurses Day on 12 May.

If you’re unable to attend on the day, you can send a photo and career highlight to gil.ramsden@nhs.net.
