Two and a half years ago I said “okay” to Adam Levene, then President of Federation and Laurel Malkin, then Vice President – which meant that in two years I would be President. I assumed this role knowing that there would be challenges to overcome, as there are with any organization. When COVID-19 hit, it brought the unprecedented circumstances which we have all been dealing with for the better part of two months.
The challenges that COVID-19 has presented us with are uncharted waters for many of us. A significant portion of our economy is closed, we are asked to stay home and put distance between ourselves and our family and friends.
The silver lining in all of this, however, is that as a volunteer I have had increased communication with the Federation’s beneficiary agencies. Every two weeks, I meet with them and get updates on how they are doing, and hear about the pressures that they are all under – yet they continue to persevere despite current circumstances.
Our agencies are run by caring, dedicated, and intelligent individuals. In these troubling times, all of the Executive Directors are pulling together and doing everything they can for their constituents. Their commitment ensures that we have a strong and vibrant community, now and in the future.
In the coming weeks, I will be sharing their stories with you, so you know just how great our community is. It is important to show that we support them, and let them know how much their efforts are appreciated. You might also consider volunteering or making a donation to the COVID-19 Relief Fund.
When life returns to a sense of normalcy, the way we all came together will be what I will remember the most.
