Conflict happens when people perceive things differently, straightforward communication is key to resolving conflict. Change your perspectives on conflict, understand the other person’s point of view and get to conflict early, these are the most important factors in managing conflict. And, strong communication skills can help you defuse thorny disagreements. This is another reason we are sharpening our communication skills through weekly toastmaster meetings.
Here is the meeting highlights of this month. On March 28, our new member Brian gave his first speech, an Ice Breaker. He introduced himself as who he was, now and in the future. We got to know Brian a great deal and looking forward to hearing his future speeches. Grace led the table topic of current events as the world becomes more complex. On April 4, Nam talked about the benefits of focusing on the positive. Stephen conducted a table topic on the pressing events happening right now. On April 11, Lorrine gave a humorous speech “When in Rome” from culture shock to accepting cultural differences and following the local custom. Sunny led a fresh idea of the topic, by planning your journey. On April 18, Phil created a podcast, it was the first podcast our club had ever done. Phil interviewed a seasoned toastmaster Marcia to give an in-depth about “Toastmastability”. Brian gave a table topic “from immigrant to local resident” to seek advice, and members were enthusiastic to give him their valuable experience and knowledge.
