Scottish Futures Trust: Connected
Tuesday 17 December 2019

It was in 2009 when SFT started operating as Scottish Government's independent centre of infrastructure expertise.

Over the past ten years and in conjunction with our many partners, we've led, managed and launched numerous infrastructure programmes. Not only has this work supported economic growth, but it has contributed towards a low-carbon economy and delivered buildings into the heart of communities for all to enjoy.

In this our tenth year, we've created SFT@TEN - a microsite that showcases some of the achievements made and milestones reached over the past ten years and the benefits delivered.

Some highlights include:

  • The City of Edinburgh Council adopting our Growth Accelerator that secures £850m of private sector investment to build the Edinburgh St James
  • Leading on the £1.8bn Scotland's Schools for the Future programme,108 of the 117 new schools are now open, benefitting thousands of pupils and hundreds of communities alike
  • Delivering over 180 community projects (valued at over £2bn) through the SFT-managed hub programme - with 76% of construction contracts awarded to local Scottish SMEs
  • Increasing the supply of affordable, mid-market and market rent housing by over 3,000, providing tenants with high-quality, energy-efficient homes
  • Launching Host in Scotland to secure infrastructure investment in the datacentre sector to develop Scotland’s international connectivity

The list of projects shortlisted for a Scottish Property Award has been announced, with ten buildings delivered through SFT's hub, Scotland's Schools for the Future and NPD programmes going head-to-head in the following categories:

  • Development of the Year (Public Buildings)
  • Architectural Excellence Award (Public Use)
  • Health Care Development of the Year
