Dear Parent/ Guardian, 

I want to welcome and introduce you to Officer Mike Bolze who began serving as our new School Resource Officer (SRO) for the Duxbury Public Schools. Officer Bolze started in this role this week, and Sergeant Nick Jamali, who previously served us in this role, will be supporting Officer Bolze through a transition period. I want to thank Sgt. Jamali for his work with the schools these past few years. His partnership, support, and resources have been an asset to our schools. We congratulate him on his promotion! Officer Bolze has been a patrol officer for the Duxbury Police Department for a number of years, and he is excited to begin his new assignment with us. Please join me in welcoming him as our SRO!

  • SBIRT- During the week of October 15 (this is a correction from last week's Newsletter), our nursing staff will begin conducting the SBIRT screenings for seventh grade students currently taking Physical Education.  The SBIRT Team is composed of the nursing and guidance staff and at the conclusion of the screening, all participating students will receive some educational material and a resource list.  If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Kathy Carney at See the letter below for more information. 
8th Grade Families: Please see these important details in preparation for the 8th grade trip to Camp Cody's Outdoor Classroom in Freedom, NH:

Departure/ Arrival
  • Luggage drop off will be Monday, October 14 between 5-7pm. Luggage will be organized by bus in the DMS Cafeteria. All student luggage should be brought in this time window with the exception of the small day bag students may have for the bus ride. 
    • Luggage will be locked up overnight in the cafeteria.
    • If there is an extenuating circumstance for your family that interferes with this luggage drop off window, please contact Mrs. Coyne (
  • Students should arrive to school by 8:20am on Tuesday October 15 and go directly to the Presentation Hall for attendance and organization to load the busses.
  • A suggested packing list is available by clicking here.
  • Students will return on Friday October 18 between 4-5pm depending on traffic. Regular updates on student arrival back in Duxbury will be available on Twitter by @Duxbury_MS. Please note, you can follow this account without having a Twitter account by googling the handle. 
  • Students may not bring cell phones or any other electronics on this trip. An important part of this experience is being "unplugged." There are several ways to get in touch should you need to:
  • We will not hesitate to reach out to you as soon as possible should the need arise
  • A reminder that all medications (including prescription and over the counter medication) should be submitted to the Camp Cody nurse, who will manage administration of medication. 
  • Please place medications in their original containers (only as many as needed for length of trip) inside a clear ziplock bag with your child's name on it. Please do not pack medication in your child's bag. No loose medication will be accepted. Exceptions would be something such as an inhaler which would be needed prior to trip departure.
  • We will collect medications prior to departure. Medications should be dropped off to the DMS Nurse, Mrs. Doyle, by Thursday, October 9.

Student Expectations
  • All school rules and expectations apply while at Camp Cody. Please be aware that should students make choices not reflective of our expectations, we may ask you to pick up your child. 
  • Student expectations will be reviewed with all 8th grade students during an assembly prior to the trip.
Important- Back to School Information: 

We have many families that have not completed their back to school information. 

What does that mean? 
We can not use your child's photograph in any pictures we send out, the school nurse can not dispense medication or provide treatment to your child and we don't have up to date emergency phone numbers for you.  The district has sent many emails to date requesting this information.  If you have not filled out this information, please check your email inbox from the district with the subject line - Important - Student Back to School Information.

- Mark your calendars for our next Meeting – Thursday, October 10 from 9:30-10:30am in the Library Conference Room.   We will be joined by our Guidance Counselors – Mike Corbin (8th grade), Shira Limmer (7th grade) and the newest addition to the staff, Ashley Sifflard (6th grade).  Take an hour to meet your child’s Guidance Counselor and understand what they do to support our kids every day.  

- Schedule the haircut and iron the outfit -- Photo Day is coming up on Thu, Oct 24!  Order forms will be sent home soon.  We’ll be recruiting volunteers via a Sign Up Genius in next week’s newsletter.
