What’s Going On In The Gardens?
Update on our Geodesic Dome
We are currently working with UCR’s Planning, Design & Construction to develop a conceptual design for a replacement of the geodesic dome, which is structurally unsound and closed to the public.
The Butterfly Garden
A group of volunteers led by Karen Fleisher has adopted the Butterfly Garden. Weeding, pruning, and planting has taken place and signage will be coming soon.
An UPDATED Friends Membership Brochure
Working with the CNAS Development team, we revised our Friends Membership Brochure to reflect recent additions to member benefits, new membership discounts for faculty and staff, and other updates.
NEW additions to UCRBG SWAG
In addition to totes, t-shirts, hats, water bottles, coasters, kneeling pads, and mugs, we have added mouse pads, journals, and microfiber cleaning cloths to our branded swag items.
Coming Soon—online purchasing
The UCR Botanic Gardens are ever changing and throughout the year there is always something in bloom.
To enhance your visit, we feature a monthly "What's in Bloom" overview at the Gardens entrance and on our website.
Interested in Volunteering?
We rely on our volunteer Stewards to welcome visitors at the entrance gate and provide information about the Gardens and our policies. Become a Steward and help us expand our hours!
Volunteers also assist with critical weeding, pruning and clean-up in the gardens. The work is dirty but rewarding; join us and see for yourself!
Join us as a UCR Botanic Gardens Volunteer!
Our staff works hard to maintain a beautiful setting for your casual and special event photos.
Because we are largely self-funded, admission donations and photo shoot fees enable us to recover some of our costs for staffing, maintenance, and operation.
We welcome personal photography of plants and nature and hope you will share your photos with others to enjoy.
Due to heavy demand for photo shoots, we require advance permission and charge a fee for all group photography, and limit the groups to three per day only on Thursdays, Fridays, and open Sundays.
To schedule a group photo shoot, please read our Photography Policy, submit the online Request a Photo Shoot form, and use the Pay Online link to pay the fee.
Those arriving without advance permission and fee payment will not be admitted and should schedule a photo session online using the form below.
Only groups of 10 or fewer, face masks and social distancing still required.

Support the UCR Botanic Gardens
Thank you for your support!
As UCR's living museum, the Botanic Gardens serve to inspire and facilitate education, research and interpretation of the natural world while providing a peaceful oasis from urban life. We appreciate more than ever the generosity of our donors and Friends, who have supported the maintenance, improvement, and advancement of our gardens and programs during this past year.
Did you know that you can honor or remember a loved one or a member of the community by donating for the planting and maintenance of a live tree?
We have a list of trees we would like to add to our collection and welcome your inquiries.
For more information, please contact the Director, Dr. Jodie Holt at 951-827-7095.
