 Special Thanksgiving Edition

Where’s the turkey? Gotta be here somewhere.

Thanksgiving background

We all know the story of the Pilgrims and Thanksgiving and it gives some authenticity to the holiday. I would sure be thankful if I sailed into the unknown on a little wooden ship filled with religious types and then was welcomed by native Americans with a banquet.

However, the actual holiday idea itself was conjured up by George Washington. Congress liked the idea but they never voted on it. The idea languished until 1863 when President Abraham Lincoln officially declared it a federal holiday.

Thanksgiving quotes

“Thanksgiving is one of my favorite days of the year because it reminds us to give thanks and to count our blessings. Suddenly, so many things become little when we realize how blessed and lucky we are.”   Joyce Girard

“We must find time to stop and thank people who make a difference in our lives.” John F. Kennedy

“Reflect on your present blessings, of which every person has plenty....and not on your past misfortunes, of which all people have some.” Charles Dickens

“When asked if my cup is half full or half empty, my only response is that I am just glad to have a cup.” Sam Lefkowitz

“The roots of all goodness lie in the soil of appreciation for goodness.” Dalai Lama

“Thanksgiving day is a good day to recommit out energies to giving thanks and just giving.” Amy Grant

“You shouldn’t just give during Thanksgiving and Christmas....you should be giving all the time.” Alcurtis Taylor

“A thankful heart is not only the greatest virtue, but the parent of all other virtues.” Cicero

“Not what we say about our blessings, but how to use them, is the true measure of Thanksgiving.” WT Purkiser

“If you are really thankful, what do you do? You share.” W. Clement Stone

...and from the hilariously funny Phyllis Diller.....  “My cooking was so bad, my kids thought it was to commemorate Pearl Harbor.”

Go out and share happiness and “thanks” with all you meet along the way this week.

Ps....in the coming weeks we will shift to a simple newsletter distribution system [MailChimp] so don’t cringe when you see it.
My apology, but I am wearing out my knuckles typing all the email addresses in each week. The problem is that my knuckles swell and I can’t get properly grip the beer mug. Mea culpa.
