Where Can I Find Truth?
Everyone thinks they have the answers!
If there is one word that describes the times in which we live, it could be CONFUSION. I'm sure you can list 5 things right now about which there are many conflicting opinions. Even if we think we know what's true about any given topic, we're still left to wonder just who is telling the truth. Sadly, everyone seems to be right in their own eyes, and some honestly believe what they are saying is true. But as one song says "Truth be told, the truth is rarely told."
It's sobering to realize there's not much we can really know for sure. This is especially sad since in John 8:32, Jesus told His new followers that "the truth will set you free." Ah, but the key is given in the verse above which says, "If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." Another time (Matt. 24:4), when Jesus was asked about the signs of His coming, the first thing He said was, “Take heed, that no man deceive you.” To navigate through this sea of information/misinformation that bombards us, we have to be able to see all these issues with Biblical eyes while knowing full well that Satan’s primary weapon is to deceive.
As you can imagine, it is hard continuing with a traveling ministry lately. My schedule almost completely cancelled. In January, the Lord opened an opportunity for me to do what I do, but in a different way. I am teaching Bible at Mansfield Christian School until the end of this school year. Sometimes I wonder if I am connecting with these kids. One girl asked me how I know what to teach each day. She shared that when she is having a problem, it turns out the next day’s Bible lesson is just what she needed. Once again, God reminded me that I don't always know what He is doing, but He is working. It is always interesting, and not difficult, to address what these kids are learning in their culture. All we have to do is teach the Word.
It has been great to start my speaking schedule again. Just this last Sunday, I was in New Jersey speaking at a church. I shared 2 talks on the book of Genesis and science, and 2 talks on why our country is so divided. I call these last 2 talks Worldview talks because they contrast a Biblical way of thinking with our popular culture. This church had a number of people who were not born in the US. As always, these folks seem to understand the importance of these talks sometimes better than those of us born here. It was a joy to speak with them after the meetings. They can't wait till I can come back again and share more.
I am starting to schedule churches across the country for this Summer and Fall. You can follow my schedule at https://www.rforh.com/events. I will be speaking at Family Camp at Camp Patmos on Kelleys Island July 5-9. This camp has lots of memories for both of us, and now we're making new memories with our daughter and her family.
Thank you for continuing to pray for us, and for supporting us during this time when it seems that ministry isn't what it was before. God is reminding us - once again - that we don't always know what He is doing, but that doesn't mean He isn't working.
